an aluminum boat and a pro troll black box

Hey Guys!

A friend of mine is currently rewiring some stuff and adding more electronics. He has a 2011 starcraft fishmaster. Ron does quite a bit of trout and salmon fishing on lake o & e. He has done a lot of electrical modifications to the boat. So my questions are as follows

1. Should the negative part of the electrical system be bonded to the boats frame? The boat does not sit in a slip and does not see salt water. Its trailered. The boats onboard 120v charger is mechanically isolated from the boats frame. If you bond the negative connection, does that defeat the purpose of the manufactures suggestion of isolating the battery charger

2. What kind of electrical reference should be between the rigger cable and the frame of the boat or the water?

3. Is the Pro Troll Black Box something that you guys would consider? The Pro Troll is a device that creates electrical charge on rigger cables to supposedly attrack trout and salmon.

Thanks

Dave

I got the answer I was looking for. FYI
SeaCatMich on the great lakes angler forum nailed it. This is what he stated.

I think you'll find that your ground is already connected to your hull via the engine... If you have auto stops on your riggers they will not work unless there is a ground making contact with the water...

Curiosity killed the cat, but for awhile I was a suspect.

We checked continuity from several locations on the boat including the hall. We didn't not have it between those locations and the negative side of the battery. I was definatly intreaged though.

My auto stops on the big johns have a limit switch relay. I have a rubber stop crimped on the cable. When the rubber stop passes through the limit it drops out the 12 volt feed to the up direction to the motor. The switch is mounted to a cable guide mounted on the arm. My riggers are old school. (96')
I have seen those stops that you are talking about. They are pretty slick! Once the cable comes out of the water, the circuit opens up the feed to the up direction of the motor. (I think)

I'm just glad my buddy has his fishmaster ripped down to the floor. I did mine last year. Mine is tucked away in the side of a mountian. Well at least til March for the walleye jig bite. 7 weeks!
