Fishfinder on the ice?

Last fallI bought a hummingbird fishfinder to mount on my kayak. Long story short I haven't had a chance to mount it. Instead of spending a bunch a money on a flasher do u think it would hurt anything to just screw it to a 2*4 and chuck the probe down the hole? Any advice would help thx

That's what Iv'e done for yrs. when ever I venture out without any problems. You can get creative on the mounting hardwarefor the transducer.

Should be just fine.  I've seen a number of people who have done it.

I use my ice flasher on my kayak come open water, yet I never thought of using my portable finder on the ice haha. I might have to try that when we eat ice back.

steelhead I made mine out of aluminum square tubing works great one horizontal that spans the hole and a vertical to mount the transducer on.

I've been using a portable Eagle for about 10 years.  I attached my transducer to an old-school tip-up frame, and it works great.  I taped the cable to the vertical piece of the frame.  I don't like it as much as the Vex my Dad uses, but it's good for depth, and it shows fish and lure/bait well.  I turn off the fish I.D. and turn up the sensitivity.  I feel blind without it.
