2B,

As cold as it has been I Bay is still open water except in the coves (or at least yesterday PM).  I creek is below 100 cfs with a lot of anchor ice.  The Gennie dropped from 6000 to 1400 yesterday, but I think I would freeze before I got half way down the hill.  Time to sit at the vise or catch up on basement cleaning, unless I hear that the little finger lakes have hardened up!

My new style is to think about tying but not do it and then curse myself when I have to pound out enough chitty flies for the next day.

sorry to hijack , but Ice is nice..
Little snow around these parts and almost a foot of solid black ice..
Crazies are starting to show up with sleds, wheelers and vehicles..

Little warm up to mid 40's expected for a day or 2 but will not hurt a thing for the fishing around here..

Hope you are all safe, warm and having fun out there..

HT,

We finally started having fishable ice on some of the lakes out here this past weekend.  Remains to be seen what the high 50's tomorrow will do to it.

Good luck in the daks,

SR is still over 2000, extremely cold and blowing.  Smaller tribs are dropping now with the cold, and were probably great Wednesday and Thursday, at least around here.  Enjoy the hardwater, conditions for ditch fishing currently don't justify any lengthy (and chancy) driving.

Well I missed the thaw, the rain, the wind and then the snow when I was gone.   My dad said it was 60 green grass on Thursday and now I am home  16 degrees and a fresh 6 to 8 on the ground with more on the way

Update got 10  or so on Sunday night Monday.   about an inch this AM.   No to prepare for the "blizzard"  that is coming   Friday and Saturday.   Again with the blizzard stuff.   One report I read said.   "Northeast preparing for the blizzard, up to a foot to fall in some parts."    C'mon

Last week they were saying 6" on friday ( Schroon lake).. Then monday it was 2" , now up to 10" and your talking Blizzard...  Locker room talk today was 20".. My gosh, I'll be ok just make up my mind.. lol....  Snowshoes are packed..

Seems the SR will be flowing OK too into spring :) Smolts :)
Should be a sweet transition, Ice, Steel, Stripers, Pond Brookies, & Stream trout == Salmon, Big 0 this time :)

When the snow finally hits the ground that's when we will know the amount.  Until then its nothing but speculation.  As long as the power stays on I couldn't care less how much snow we get or don't get.
You're right HT, all this precipitation points toward good fishing in the Spring.  Hurry April, May and June.

TB, I have no use for snow except water conservation.. Other then that, it's all work.. Give me ICE COLD any day over snow.. Walk on , in water or stoke the fire, my choice.. No hassle to deal with, well, frozen guides ..lol

BTW:
Bobby is joining Jorma tonight at Sweetwater, Ca.. Should be a nice set :)

I think in the schroon lake area we are going to see 12 +.. Hope it stops there.. Awhile ago (december) we did 20+ up there and it was work, fun but work..
Nothing on ice now and little snowpack a shore..
Think we will be fine as it's a 1 day snow event and we will be on ice, in town for 3 days..  Heck there is a bar to boot at lodge if all else fails :)
Maybe the wind will blow the big lakes clean friday night ?? Who knows..
Anyway I'll be loving it !!!

I'm in the 12-20+ area in lower Dutchess County east of the Hudson River.  Blew out a brake line on my old Honda Accord yesterday, stopped by my brothers garage to see how he was making out with the repair earlier today.  His partner said he heard 24+ in my area.  Regardless, the snow blower is gassed up and ready to go.
PS: two brake lines along with gas line feed and return & evap mucho dinero just for the Honda parts-ouch.

Whatever it brings I am ready.   Plow truck is ready.  Tractor with 7 foot blower on back  is ready.   Walk behind blower is ready.   Several shovels are ready.   Around here 12 to 20  has already fallen several times this winter and if it  is over the course of 18 hours or so not that bad at all.  He had several instances this year that we had a rate of 4 to 6 inches an hour.
Now that's when it is really coming down.

Gerry I purchased the equipment to make all my own brake and gas lines a few years ago  when I priced out some OE Chevy brake lines.   Have a nice hydraulic flaring tool that my friend and I bought and share and several benders.  Have replaced every line on my truck and my dads over the last few years.   25 feet of zinc plated line is about 30 bucks.    Do have to say though the labor to put it in crawling around under the truck or car SUCKS.

Re:Weather thread 2013/02/07 20:13:49 (permalink)
My brothers is a mechanic with his own shop in Pawling, NY.  He also has the ability, tool and material to fabricate those lines but as you know time is money.  If he were to fabricate all five lines it would take too long.  It was my choice to buy the OEM parts.  I'm glad I did because the brake line to the right rear had more twists and turns than a Gothic novel.  I also chose to replace them all at the same time because the odds are that you pop one you pop the others sooner or later.  Its a good thing it happened while I had the car because a little over a week ago it was my daughter's car.  She lives in Albany and commutes to Saratoga every day.  At least I have the peace of mind knowing she's in a new Accord and break downs shouldn't be an issue.

Back to the weather:  Enjoy the snow and I'll let you know how much us flatlanders get downstate.  Twenty for you is a dusting, twenty for most of the idiots down here is a major catastrophe.

Well they just downgraded the totals.  one station says about 8 inches, one says 9 to 15,  BUT all by 7am Saturday.  Was never too worried, but now hardly at all.  I feel for the folks to the north and west, but we will see where it gets.

Your right Gerry with some of those line with more twists and turns than a mountain road you are better off with the pre bent and I agree replace them all, when one goes the others are not far behind. Remember the rubber lines too.  They get soft and sometimes collapse internally causing a soft pedal or to burst.

Re:Weather thread 2013/02/08 08:36:00 (permalink)
Its really kind of sad but the weather guy has brought it on himself--lol
Years of hyping bigger and badder rains and winds and snowstorms have produced a 'doubting Thomas' attitude.
"Is it gonna be windy and wet?? -then they show a old really nasty big storm clip and say -"tune in after the ads for the answer"-- and later say "Naw, we aint gettin nothin" --Hype.
Yes- Sandy was as bad as they said it would be but lets face it- that dont happen often.
Yesterday somebody said we would get over 30" and wind over 50 mph  ( thats a really BIG deal here ) -ya couldnt get near stores with folks stocking up.
Hey- maybee Old  Bama is behind it and trying to perk up the economy- lol.
This morning it was 20"and 'perhaps' winds to 40.
Will have to wait and see- good luck with whatever you get- be safe.
