Well from the report I got most everyone was using spinning gear ( except L-13 & 2 B ) which makes fishing high water much more manageable , unless you put mono on the fly reel with 4 + PAC man sinkers on.

The weather really didn't look that wet until thurs night and who knows, it changes by the hr now.
After reading L-13 post and thinking about chrome all night at work I really think I need to get a fix, even if its just a skunk

Well it's 1650 with a 1500 CFS flow from the dam so not much run off now.   Who knows what the next few days will bring.  Looks like the weekend may be a high water event.   1500 I would think about trying,  but 2k ............
There is alot of work yet to get done around here,  gotta drop next years fire wood before the snow hits too bad.   Better to get it done at 2k than when the water is more manageable.

I'm leaving tomorrow night. There's a few spots that I've found that need 2,000 to come alive.  I'm going to tough it out thru Sat. If anything, I'll search  a bit and try to find some new spots. Learning experience for me.  Good luck to all that go.

Re: Weather thread 2013/10/29 22:35:57 (permalink)
Well I'm cutting this trip short, too much water for me and it looks like a lot more is going to fall with lots of wind.
Monday I fished the LFZ for a couple hrs and had one fish on but I think it was foul hooked. Not much else happening expcept under the pines below the wire, those that were there had some success.
Today I ventured up to the UFZ on the opposite side and managed two small rainbows and 5 hook ups on steel,The steel ripped into the heavy current and that was the end of it.Thought the flow was heavy for 1200 then when I got back to the bridge was told they bumped it to 1500.
With the weather forecast and heavy water I decided I had enough for now,Next fishing venture will probably be in the Erie tribs in Pa.
Good luck to all that venture out there.

Ya I'm a puss.
Sat here for an hour trying to talk myself into a solo day trip.
1200 was doable but tough work with fish spread out.
1500 while still doable is even more limiting.
Bagging it for the day.

Maybe a late morning walk into the gorge for the exercise is in the cards.

guys steady rain for the past 2 hours this morning if you look at the radar been over tUg hill and has a ways to come over the shore region and through the tug. Could create minimal run off more so it is saturated in the ground. Tomorrow looking like hundred percent rain as well as Friday. I'm in the same boat is Clint pretty much working a double donuts shift. Just going to keep chugging along and hope for stabilizing the middle of next week and I can maybe get a couple hours here or there.Yeebudda yeebudda that's all folks!!!

oh yeah please be safe anyone Who going out there. And Tuna give me a ring even though I can't fish probably could hook up with you for a few talk to you later

HT,

We saw quite a few flyflingers, many spey fishers.  As we've been saying, inside seams , a lot of the buckets were places where you'd be high and dry at 335.  As DB's wondering about guys showing up despite weather, if you made your reservations last year or 6 months ago, and you need approval to take the time from work, you go when you planned it regardless of conditions.  Besides, with a little creative map reading, there will be a lot of productive water within 30 miles if you get the rain.

Not really wondering lucky, more so informing. As you did in the past, we always went up rain or shine... no flow gauges to check on the internet or reports chronicled through forums and Facebook... the good ole days I guess you'd call it. Mike miller used to call this 2 gates plus a little run off... never stopped us. Fond memories to say the least

The weather thread.. Perhaps the best topic on the forum.. I can not thank you guys enough for this type of information.. Yes years ago the weather mattered none when I was 16 and had all the time in the world.. Many times fishing was secondary ..Now in the old age of responsibilities the fishing becomes the primary reason I go.. The reports and pictures are fantastic but it's the weather that makes my decisions now, I know enough about fishing, well, ,,,,,

Things are so strange.. The creeks around my house are almost drought stage.. we have had rain but the leaves are still pretty green/ yellow and only about 40% down..
I see the big deal is happening over the Great Lake region and without you good folks giving the good info I would blindly , as used to, head up for the adventure of fishing.. But now,Again , its about the fishing for me..
I'm packed and ready to hit the sack hoping for the good words when I awake..
All I ask is for Jack to do the "NO RAIN, NO RAIN dance ..

Thanks for the report, Jack. Sorry your trip was not more productive. I'll be upping tippet size  and use my 8 with some backbone next few days.
Snowed a little here, now just cold drizzle. Wish it was like that on the SR with it running under 1,000.  And if wishes were horses beggars would just have to shovel more horse ****.

Well the latest forecast I have seen are calling for not as much rain and only " scattered showers"  throughout the weekend.   They are biased towards the Syracuse area though.  There may be some hope.

I still have a free pass for DSR that Fred gave us when he kicked us out one AM when the tall trees down by the meadow were waving around like wheat stalks.  Those winds can be brutal, and fatal if you're under a widow maker when it goes.  Be careful out there!

The flat line on flow charts are not flat anymore... just the beginning most likely...

Hopefully the boys are behind the plug rods right now... this warm rain should get them going before it really starts running off...

Good luck in these flows guys- BE CAREFUL
Guess the only thing that really bothers me in these conditions is the Tribs and feeders- especially the feeders. Hope L/E is pounding them as hard as some of the slobs do when the main river is high.
Clints post a while back about L/E stepping out of the woods and pinching the feeder snaggers was GREAT.
These waters will likely signal the end of Kings  for the year- what a wonderful season it was too-figure most have run in on the high flows and likely be finished before the waters lowers. Perhaps a straggler here and there but mostly over- always one here and there into mid November,
Now is time for a few Hos and increasing Steel. Saw recent dead Hos into Feb a couple of years back in Kiddie.

As predicted...lol :)

Yup, gonna be over 2000 in pineville by first light and probably 2200/2300 downtown...
May even brake the daily record in the next few days if the run off comes hard and especially if they go to 2k. Have fun out there guys. I love it personally. Higher flows do nothing but good for the fish.

Man, wish I could run the waves with you guys tomorrow... would be the highest flows I ever rode on top of...be safe
