I should not have to by fish worms for at least half the summer after tonight. 1/2 hour netted several hundred. If I was greedy I would still be out , but the steel plate in my neck tells me otherwise

Get at the down slope end of the fields and use rakes to trap the earthy bounty that flow carries!   Have not seen too many crawlers in my yard since my last big harvest, but I was set for worms for two years then after they washed out of the holes, and went sliding toward the catch basins.  Invasive species, too, the night crawler, harvest all you can take.  Good with walnuts in chocolate chip cookies, too!

5200 is the updated Dam release. At a 3200 flow it's near 5 grand with natural flow. It will be like 8 grand from 2 a area and down.

Sure got a bag of mixed weather starting today. Weather dude says 1 to 2" inches of snow and could be 1" total of rain too. Mup to my north they get the rain plus 5 to 7" of snow.😛

Come Saturday we get sun warming us into the low 50s and Monday brings with it 70 degree temp.

I don't know but, if there's any truth that April showers bring May flowers, there gonna be some big posey's growing around my place.

Probably those stupid dandelions 😕.

Stay dry and tight lines.

After each of the thaws this past month I've had a multitude of little red wrigglers all over my driveway.  I haven't drowned a worm fishing for 40 years or more so they make it back to safety or the birds feast upon them.  The car's tires take a toll too.
All the local reservoir outlet streams are running extremely high which isn't necessarily a bad thing for those stockies that were put in two weeks ago.  The takers will clean them out pretty darn fast once the levels return to normal.

Sorry folks, not really a weather point although it might hit high 70's next week.
Kinad a cant fix dumb and a rant.
Broke the wrist 4 weeks ago.. Went to a walk in after 2nd day to get the official confirmed. (Rant), Since medical insurance is so screwed up now , it cost me $400 cash to walk out just knowing it was broken and an ace bandage splint. I was told to go see a specialist for further diagnosis. Well, I'm no expert (here comes the dummy ) but looking on my computer at the xray it was a straight line fracture with no displacement. To me , an old school doctor would have just wrapped it in a cast and be done.. Now , In todays medicine, you need to spread your money around to everyone that wont make a decision what to do..  Again more dumbness from me, I figure if I went to this specialist, they would take more xrays and say yup, its broken, then either
1. put a real cast on
2. put a new ace bandage on
3. tell me to come back 4 more times
      And
4. take at least a thousand or more outta my pocket

So in this story I chose option # 5, Just leave the loss at $400. and suck it up for a few weeks until it gets better..
Once again here comes the Stupidity:
I'm a very active and physically demanding person. Always doing something.
Having this thing is like a nuisance that's getting in the way so I over power pain and reason .
This is doing me no favors indeed.

Question : Clint, hint hint..
I fear I may have now displaced the bone and scar tissue is forming. Reason : It's swelling daily now and sever pain shoots if it's moved a certain places..
Could this just be a healing process ?
I also take the splint off to try and keep my fingers and wrist flexible , thinking Im doing therapy. It causes severe pain , I have finally been able to make a fist but can in no way turn my wrist more then straight up (yea never said I was smart ).   Good Idea to keep doing or STOP all that..

Striper season is coming and I gotta fish without all this nonsense

God love you Tuna.  The advice you paid $400.00 for rolled off you like water on a ducks back but you are now willing to listen to advice you don't have to pay for.  If you don't take heed to the advice you paid for you may not have any striper season.  Slow down buddy.

Rich I have no idea what kind of insurance you have but you should have a co-pay to hep pay for this. However, I would go see a competent doctor and get this fixed or you may do a lot of harm trying to manage it yourself.
As far as the weather goes we here in my neck of the woods are no longer in a drought, now we could use some Sun and warmth,it's on the way so they say.

I a no MD and I did not stay at the holiday in last night.

I fear I may have now displaced the bone and scar tissue is forming. Reason : It's swelling daily now and sever pain shoots if it's moved a certain places..
Could this just be a healing process ?     Bones start to knit together in about 10 days, in that time things can still move.  Yes it could be healing process or it could be grinding back and forth. If they keep moving it will not start to knit correctly.  If it does knit in the wrong position there could be issues. You won't know without an x ray.  They will often wait to put the cast on due would have been put to swelling. Put it on too soon and it could get tight. I agree in the old days if appropriate a cast would have Been put on. Now they want Ortho to do it.
I also take the splint off to try and keep my fingers and wrist flexible , thinking Im doing therapy. It causes severe pain , I have finally been able to make a fist but can in no way turn my wrist more then straight up (yea never said I was smart ).   Good Idea to keep doing or STOP all that..
Stop, there is a reason that they put a cast on to immobilize. Tremendous torque is put on the wrist during turning. It needs time to knit in the correct place.

Even with my limited knowledge I cannot comment more without knowing what bone was broken , where it was broken and how ''active'' you have been.  Sorry, my opinion is another x ray.  If it is displaced, it needs to be set and casted, if not casted. It sure could just healing pains , but I would not chance it.

If you're catching stripers, the Gamie will probably look at the Smallies as incidental catch, unless you start taking a bunch of hero shots (A person may not fish for a species (even if immediately released) during the closed season for that species on a given water. Fish caught during the closed season must be unhooked and released immediately. They may not be handled for any other purpose.)  If all you are catching is smallies, because the stripers have not showed up yet, you'll probably get told to move or get a ticket.  You should also remember that the ECO's are finding the internet to be a very helpful enforcement tool. We have a stream around here that opens for trout this weekend and will have walleyes at the lower end.  If you are fishing a brown jig down low, you'll likely get a ticket for targeting walleyes, but in general that's a little easier as no one really fishes for walleyes for sport, they fight like old shoes, and most of the guys that watch that spot will be down there the first weekend in May when they can take home some fillets, and will be further upstream looking for trout if they are on that stream until May.

Just for the record,
Dec put out a public statement they will NOT prosecute for taking pictures.
Dang, criminals win again. ..
no worries however, I can't post pictures for the www to see hero shots. Only for my self esteem wall hangers.

Smallmouth beware, stay off my striper baits or your gonna get photo shot.
Weather and waters are getting fishy round here . Almost tax day

I had contacted the DEC several times about pictures being taken of sturgeon caught in Oneida lake. There was one where the fish was on concrete. I asked if it would warrant a ticket.  They said yes. and told me they were thinking about rewording the reg.  A few months later the new reg came out with new wording as above. Then came the public outcry and the statement that they would not ticket for photo's. I then resent the pic to DEC and asked if this would be ticket and they said it would be up to the officer, but yes it could be. It's about undue harm,  a quick pic vs flopping around.  This does not have much to due with the above, but with my calls I feel I helped the new wording come into play.   The pic in  ???? Is at the top.

With sturgeon, the fact that they are threatened species with no possession allowed at any time might come into play.

Sturgeon are no different in the abstain of photos.
Why should they be . Seeing piles of carp along the roadside from bow fishers is no different.
Everything should be treated as intended, cause and effect. Putting responsibility upon the angler

I was there for the clavicle pin salmon fighting. You're a tough dude, HT. Don't permanently screw yourself up, though. You got crew for the Mae, and I know you like to watch sons and kids fight striped fish  as much as catch them; actually, more so.  I know you're right about the schoolies, they're showing up in RI in the usual spots. Great way to wash California into memory by chasing my favorite fish. We had a great trip.  Whales and otters and redwoods, elk, flowers on mountainsides and 7 species of salty fish on the fly. Played music with an old band mate, fished with an old friend. Felt like I was gone for months.
The bow fishing is pretty wasteful. It's gotten pretty tough to get in casting range of large carp in some of my favorite spots. I use to get a few shots at 20 lb. plus specimens feeding in clear water per outing. Now, it's a few times a season. Carp of that size are 20+ years old .
Good luck spring fishing to all.

Well made a trip to a certain pond in the mountains in Vermont I knew it was early in the year but who would of thought. Half way up snow here and the in the shade by the time I made it all the way up road completely covered but got past the point of no return. Got to the pond and knew it wasn't going to be good but after a 2 hour ride I said to myself I got to go check it out. Walked down into the pond thank god for some snowmobile traffic it kept me on the top but it ended so trailblazing I went. Some spots I was up to my ba11$ I got to the pond completely frozen actually walked out on it. The day before it was 22 degrees up there so much for spring. Thinking a good month before we will be fishing there but hey it was worth the trip I was off and all the local streams are high. Good luck to anyone that can get out

The warming water isn't hurting the fishing. The float tube and my 2 wt. is getting a work out. One rainbow slab spanned my stripping basket and was  easily  4 lbs.   I also got 3 pike out of one of the lakes. Eating dragonfly nymphs above the dead weed tops in 12-15' of water.  Also sight fished the first 2 ( 6-7 lb.) carp of the year.  Love it.   Bring on the backwoods brookies and stripers.  Did the dropback season happen (or is happening), or were they flushed with high flows?

Water is still at 1700,  probably flushed back. FWIW the hatchery got all it's eggs so all is not lost. I usually go up a few times if the water gets below 1200 or so and I am still waiting.

Thanks , Clint. You and I caught steel in a place that's very good in high water.  Pretty safe wading there.  Hope you get to go. I read a few reports that say fish , but as RG has said many times, gotta take those with a grain of salt. Good news about the egg take.

Good fishing Charlie.
Wellll -guess am gonna pass on Steel this Spring.
Last week woulda been it for me but conditions stunk.
Local stockies are doing well and Turkey starts next week here at home.
Really missing Pulaski but a trip for so few chances to get a fish ( at my level of Steel expertise) will cause me to take pause this year.
Missed last spring for much the same reason.
Regulars are getting some, and to them -- good fishing.
Its different without a place up there-used to fish no matter what- and then do yard work   lol.
