Some very nice browns come from the Little Juanita  I like fishing sulfurs out there they have a great hatch that comes off. Ever get a chance still head or sculpin try hitting the Clarion River up in bell town and above the bridge. I caught 2 beautiful browns out of there last year on mayfly pattern. I do believe that 99% are stockies could be wrong but thats what i do believe.

Elephanthead, you hit it right on the head, that brown was mostly likely stocked and then pellet fed, still a nice fish though.....

May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it.

Yeah thats just gotta eat him up inside, hell usually 3 or 4 of us will park a vehicle down at the lot at Rothrock and drive up creek and park at the church at Spruce Creek and fish down through his property, I love it when there out at the farm, I make sure I spend plenty of time there just to **** them off, they pay all that money, and now the only thing that money gets them on the J is the abilty to drive down the creek a half a mile or so............LOL

If scientist could geneticaly alter brook trout to tolerate warmer and not so clean water,  i'd be all for stocking brookies in the lake.  I'd love to catch a coaster.

STOCK MORE SEA RUN BROWNS!

1) Browns are better eating
2) Browns can get a LOT bigger (look at last spring's catches in Lake Michigan, there were a slew of 20#+ fish caught).  Wouldn't it be great to lock into a 20#+ anything out of Lake Erie?
3) Browns are more tolerant of higher water temps
4) We won't be GIVING half our stockies to Canada, that rely primarily on natural reproduction for their steelies.  How many of the stocks PA, OH, and NY contribute are harvested in Canadian waters each year due to the steelies preference for the colder water temps of the Canadian waters.
5) Brownies tend to stay closer to their "home" waters where they were stocked
6) More "Biodiversity",  (hopefully the PFBC will read this and jump on their buzzword here)
7) Browns can provide a year round fishery on the PA shore not exclusively trib related.

The Wesleyville Conservation Club is working on a deal to stock 10,000 - 12,000 browns in the Eastside Trib. Streams for 2008.
If the project works, we will continue doing this.

I didn't get to read every post on this thread but did anybody ever think that if they stock the brown trout in the erie tribs all it is going to do is bring more people to erie that would normally go to new york to fish browns.  I don't know if this would be a great idea, the tribs already get pounded with people in the fall and then bring guys in trying to snag the browns(not that all guys r trying to snag the browns, but come on some r going too).  Let the incidental brown catches be where its at.  After a couple years of this people will want the salmon back and then whats going to happen is the fish we have come to love, the lake run rainbow "steelhead" will be on the back burner and then people will **** about this.  Its a never ending battle, you want big browns go to new york and fish em.  My .02 .....

want browns, you get less steelhead...and more people looking to cut the browns' bellies open for eggs...i think maybe dumping 1500-3000 browns at the mouth of each creek on the opening day of trout would suffice cause at least some of those fish would come back and it would still be a thrill to catch one but theyre wont be enough to have people flocking over here for eggs...

I would love to see more Brown Trout stocked in The Lake Erie Watershed. Pete Alex (Visionquest) president of the EPFSA (Erie Professional Sportfishing Association) is currently working with  Chuck Murray from the PA Fish and Boat Commission in regard to future efforts by the PA Fish and Boat Commission to increase the existing Brown Trout stocking efforts and place more emphasis on raising Browns. Mr. Murray was open to this and the ball has started to roll. Pete has also talked to Bob Hetz from the 3-C-U regarding this same topic. Bob Hetz may be meeting with Chuck Murray to discuss obtaining the eggs from the Commission with intentions to support this program. If you would like more involvement in stocking Brown Trout and other issues you may want to join the EPFSA or attend the first public meeting on February 20th. The time and place are not finalized, but they're looking for somewhere near I-90 and Peach St. If you'd like more info about the EPFSA visit the website at:  http://www.epsfa.com/index.htm   Annual membership is $10 for individual.  It's a great organization and all about protecting and improving the Lake Erie Fishery.
