Late Season Eyes-Conneaut

Had the opportunity to fish with a friend and member here [Freshwaterdrum-Jeremy] this past Saturday Sept 15th out of Conneaut PA. Being a PA guy, this was my first experience fishing on the Ohio side of the Lake.

It was bumpy start to the day as we were greeted with some choppy 2-3 foot waves as we left the harbor. It was quite a rough ride in his older 19 ft Sylvan Great Lakes special; but noneless we made the run out.

We started moving rods right away, but unfortunetley they were all sheepshead. I don't remember the exact coordinates, but we started out almost directly north of the harbor around the 6 line. After boating at least a dozen sheepshead, we picked up and ran out further north.  We actually had a quad on sheepshead-that was a fun fire drill...

Our next couple passes we finally started to get past the sheepshead and began pulling some eyes. Once we found the hot ticket it was game on. For the next 2hrs or so we had a nice steady pick going.  We caught 14 eyes total for the boat.  We had 3 rods go at the end, so we ending up turning the last 2 riders loose.    We had a nice mix of fish ranging from 18" up to about 28" for our biggest.  After that we picked up and decided to run in.

We ran 4 big dipseys all day becuase of the choppy lake. Worms and harnesses accounted for about 25 sheep and only 1 walleye. Renosky sticks in blue/green on the big dipsey were the big winners. This combo accounted for 10 of the 14. A pink Bomber Long A behind the dipsey took another 3. We also dropped countless fish and managed to boat one small steelhead. Inside dipsey on 1 1/2 back 150 was best taker, although the outside dipseys on 3 1/2 and 180-200 chipped in a few. Most of the action on the walleyes was between 70-74 fow.

Here's a photo of me with a few of the days catch. A nice day on the water; unfortunetley engine trouble with my buddies boat forced us off the water and killed our plans for fishing Sunday. We ending up having to run in on his kicker motor.

I wish those waves were just 2-3's!!! I was looking at the GoPro video I took and it was rockn n rollin pretty good out there.  I think the gopro died before we got into any walleye unfortunately...but I do have a quad or two of sheep in video lol

    drumR,
Get the battery BacPac if you haven't already, and reduce resolution to 720-30 if you want the juice to last all day.

Yeah, those were definately not 2-3. I think Bogey and I saw some 8-10's on Sunday. At least one of them scared us! LOL. Like he said, no eyes or slime, but still a good time. Can't wait to go again!

Amazon has a knock off go pro battery pack(2) with charger for a decent price. Between that and switch to 720i you get a widescreen view that will help, also the antifog packs help as I had some fogging issues with mine this year. I still have about 20 hours of feesh catching to edit and get posted.

Ill have to look into that!  I have about an hour of video where the sun glared off the windshield and completely ruined it lol. But after I turned the boat and the sun wasnt a problem the picture seemed foggy.  Ill have to try 720 next time out.  I have been using it to troll for musky at night and I only have about 3 hours to fish, so the battery running out hasnt been a problem.
