Noodle rods

Can someone please tell me what a noodle rod is? I have only heard of them recently. What are they used for? What techniques in using them? Are they for live bait fishing only or can you use them with artificials?

http://www.fishusa.com/Ro...onSteelheadRods_c.html noodle rods are long rods, typically w moderate/light action used mainly for float fishing for steelhead/salmon/trout in streams. The extra length let's you hold more line off the water for drag free drifts, the moderate action helps you fight big fish w light line. Most people using them for panfish are just trying to get some extra use out of them instead of just Oct-march.

Noodle rods are good for tossing light lures, poppers, jigs and even flys.
