Channel catfish troubles in maryland

I fish off of the patuxent river in maryland and I have had no luck with any channel cats. I've used livers worms squids cheese and shrimp. No luck with any of them. All I seem to catch is immature striped bass and hard heads. Any advice

I don't know just where you are fishing... we fish a small 'creek' just south of the 301 bridge near Dahlgren's Weapons Lab.... cut bunker and garlic liver fished on bottom on the upper end of deep holes while the tide is running produced as many channels and small blues as we could catch.
But we usually are fishing mid to late summer, so is a very active time for them, and we fish mostly from boat, though we are lucky enough to have access to a pier at a good site on the creek.
Watch out for the crab pots!

Edit to add... our normal site is off of the Potomac river, not the Pax, but have relatives who use the same method with good luck on the Pax also.
