seasons over

not this its a bad thing but i def. took to much time worrying about killing other peoples birds first this year ... not the best patience with them either but all in all a fun year ... it was nice to introduce two new people to the turkey woods and give them the same basic beginning tools to hopefully start their careers ... next year ill def step my game up though being a decent caller im coming to find is a very small portion of the battle ... but all in all awesome spring ...

You might want to check the regs.

    31st is the last day.

My slowest season ever as far as number of birds heard.  Birds were there, action was not. Saw poults earlier this year than I ever have.

Haven't heard a gobble in over a week.  Even tried the afternoon hunts. Bugs, heat, too high fields and too much ground cover. The last 3 gobblers I saw were alone, feeding, and not interested. Looks like my second tag will go unfilled.

By the second week, I saw gobblers back in bachelor groups and very uninterested in calls.

I have always been a advocate of a earlier season or at least a split season because of differences in climate throughout the state. Similar to our split trout opener. One only needs to look at how the early green up this year affected the hunting. Just about impossible to see past ten yards  in the woods in these parts by the second week and birds not talking.

Some will say the weather doesn't affect the timing of breeding or nesting of turkeys. This year it certainly did where I hunted. Poults in early May and I was bumping hens of the nest early in the season. Not a good situation, IMO.

Personally, I feel that hunting turkeys during peak breeding is safer, because of the better visibility and less disruptive to nesting success than starting our season when we do.

    JMHO, of course.

Not sure how I feel about different openings but I understand where you are coming from. One thing for sure is this year has been unlike any other spring season since I started chasing the gobblers back in the 60"s. I wouldn't be unhappy if  we went back to a more normal spring although the lack of snow to shovel last winter sure was nice. Heck, two more days that are going to be cooler---- hope springs eternal

Anyone read the letter to the editor in PA Outdoor News from the guy who thinks daylight savings time is effecting turkey breeding season?  No lie.  Sorry if the author is someone who reads these boards, but I got a good laugh.
