Streams fished out

The Queen went for trout today. She landed 15 trout and one was 20 inches. This stream was not stocked in season yet and she saw no one else all morning. Don't give up too soon...WF

    Shhhh!

I love the people who think the streams all get fished out within a month after the opener.

...they pay for many the trout I catch from June to March.

i agree there is still plenty of trout left in all streams. As far as fishing under a rock i consider a fish under a rock in a sheltering lie and not a feeding lie.

Stocked trout are like the free samples at Sam's Club.  Even if you don't want a Bagel Crisp with leftover rotisserie salad spread, you just take it because, well, its there and its free.

And there is no shame in that, stocked trout or free samples, because, well, its there and its free.

The 2nd stock is the best time to fish anyways...turkey season will be in full swing and most guys give up on trout. Fish for trout after work during the week, and take the boat on the weekends for bass/walleyes/perch/crappies

    Back on topic.

I agree that the streams are fished out with regard to stocked trout.

I have not been able to surpass 70 in an afternoon/evening on a CDC HC m-o-u-s-e yet.

Hopefully the second stocking will improve that.

    Here's something to think about!!!

    Stocked trout are homeless trout.
They're raised in a clean tank with fresh running water, they're fed daily, they live in a controlled environment, and they are well taken care of.

Come stocking time, they are tossed into a muddy freezing river, they have to fend for themselves, and they're starving so bad, they'll hit anything that looks like food. Then when the weather warms up, they die off.

    Yep, easy fishing.

i love hearing guys with excuses as to why the stocked fish aren't hooking themselves.  the fish have wisened up and are no longer taking blue powerbait and daredevil spoons.  4-5 days in a stream and a trout will adjust to what food is naturally around.  they're still dumb stockies, just not dumb enough to take the most rediculous baits/lures.  i fished an evening caddis hatch recently and a college aged fella about 40 yards down from me from was visable upset that his salted minnows were being outfished by my stupid flies.  he finally walked my way, and asked what they were biting on.  mind you it was SNOWING caddis at the time.  i said they were taking adult and pupae caddis, tan, size 16.  He said he killed them the previous week on his salted minnies and then went on a rant that the state hasn't been stocking as many fish as they used to, yadda yadda.  i released two more during his rant and moved on.  i was going to explain to him that the minnies worked last week because the fish were hungry because there were no more pellets being fed to them and they were eating anything they saw, and now they had adjusted to the natural big life and were no longer taking walmart baits.  but before i could he reached in to his creel for another salted minnie and came out with a natty ice can, which he cracked, chugged, rebaited, and moved on.  gotta love the yinzer army.
