raystown smelt

can some one tell me when the smelt start running up the tribs in raystown lake. My wife talks about doing it when she was a kid in NY and we live in PA now. I just found out that raystown has smelt runs and want to take her and try it out myself

    I'm no help there but welcome aboard. I had no idea they had smelt. Only been there once long ago.

    Smelting was very popular at Raystown in the early to mid-90's.  But it kind of died out.  I don't know if there are still enough there to make it worth the effort.

    Well it has "smelt" every time I've been there.

    We used to hit it probably 15-years ago now. Get a ton of them take them home and fry them up right then in the middle of the night - bones and all. Pretty fun, we got checked by the fish comish a few times I remember too.
