Hard Water Get Together

Who is in and who is not?

The lake is to be decided as is the date.  Post your suggestion for place and date and hopefully we could all make a day of it. I really don't know much about ice fishing other than the drinking usually starts around 8 AM and thats good with me.

All in favor ...Chime in and vote for your date and location.

No problem, ...Bring your friend. bring two. Lets just get together and catch some fish. Or just stand around on the ice eating and drinking.

I'm up for it if my work schedule jives. I work all 3 shifts each month, and each day of the week I have off once per month. Except Saturday I'm off twice per month. The good thing is, I know my days off months ahead of time.

My vote goes for Goodyear for walleye, or Lonely for pike.

Yeah, I just want to stand on some hardwater with potential for them humpbacks and that possible walleye or two. I wonder if any of you guys ever witnessed any icefisherman with a limit of walleye on any ny lake? I have yet to catch a marble eye through the ice. Better odds of filling a nice bucket of a dozen or better crappie and yellow perch on a good day on those bigger lakes! Here is my report for whitneypoint reservior,  I tried the lake this summer trolling harness rigs both worms leeches and had no luck for walleye. I will certainly pass on ice fishing it knowing from my own experience and the amount of unproductive time covered trolling that water. I will try the bigger lakes up near you people should there be sufficient ice. BBUSH BUD HENIKIENS(cans only please) coleman portable grill thumans chilly cheese dogs and hopefully a grand old time! lol

Count me in guys.  I don't care where it is, or what kind of fish. I can get a day off if I know in advance when we go.  February should have real good ice everywhere.
Hook-  did you ever try Round Lake?  I've been busy with wallpaper-stripping and spackling this week ..ughh.  Looks like next week will be good, deep freeze on the weekend predicted. Let me know when you're off.  I get out at 2 or 3am, so I don't get up super-early. The Aqua-Vu is enroute from Minnesota, I'm psyched for that bad boy, I'm gonna have some fun with that.

Back-  i got a bunch of stress cracks and a hole in the wall from a crazy polock with a sledgehammer. (long story) Then i gotta paint.  Why the hell I waited til december I don't know.
Dan-   I'm no expert myself, thats why i need the aqua-vu thing.  That'll be part of the fun seeing how everyone else sets up their rigs and stuff. Don't have a gas auger but i have a nice sharp 7" Lazer I don't mind sharing.  Daytona 500 is Feb 17.

Yank, I've only fished Round during open water, except one short day on the hard water last winter. I've seen pictures of some very nice pike come out of there. I've got some ideas where they may hang out. I'll be somewhere Tues and Wed this coming week. Most likely there one day.

We don't need any stinkin' gas augers. I actually sold mine in a garage sale this summer. I'm fine with an 8" hand job.

Everyone: I'll post every day I plan on fishing. Open invite to anyone to join me any time.

hook, I will take my lazer 6" over my friends eskimo 10" gas anyday when the ice is 4 to 8 inches, or even a foot knowing it is lighter  and much easier to transport. When I am sledding around using my flashlight size polar tech sounder , it is easy to use the lazer for jigging. But no doubt the gas is nice to have for two guys or more setting tipups especially ice ove a foot thick. This storm is hammering alot of upstate and not sure what I'm doing this weekend! Wanted to go toggin off a party boat off jersey here but, I only like calm nice weather for that too! lol man I sure got soft over the years! lol I use to be a diehard no matter what the weather was doing! These days, I'm prepared to pick and choose where and when for the most part for my great american pastime.

sorry Mohawkriverdan for not getting in touch, you know , with work and this rash of snow i have been a busy beaver.
    the Daytona weekend is feb-16-17th
i will be hanging out in Oswego, as always that weekend with the woman
also you seen the posting for the get together on the ADK site, so how about the last weekend in January ? which would be 1/26 or 27 ?

personally i like trout, and generally fish trout lakes
the Lakes in Essex Co. are good or even Hamilton Co. and i have a hometown hot spot if need be.
but with that said i'd be open for any hardwater folks would like to fish.
    so here are some lakes:
        Essex
    1. Schroon  (mix)
    2. Connery  (trout)
    3. Putnam   ( pike,musky,perch)

        Hamilton
    1. Lewey  (mix)
    2. Pleasant  (mix)
    3. Eaton  (trout)

       Saratoga Lake
       Hometown Lake ( near Mass.)

It's short notice, but it looks like some of us are going to Round Lake tomorrow. I'll be there from noon till sundown. Nice small lake with easy access to break out all the gear for the 1st time to make sure everything is working well.

I'm planning on Lake Lonely on Thursday. I've got a great honey hole for pike. Also plan on doing some exploring for the walleye that I hear are in this water. Again, anyone is welcome to join me. I'll be getting on the ice at sun-up.

Here is the phone number for the Port Henry Chamber of Commerce (518) 546-7261.  I'm sure they will be able to help you.  Let me know how you make out, as the ice fishing up there sounds interesting.  However, I never heard much about them catching perch - mostly smelt!

    re: Champlain
I hear they set up a campstove with a pot of oil, and twist the heads off the smelt (and the guts with it) and fry em up like french fries right on the ice.  Sounds interesting, but pulling up 4 inch fish not too exciting.  Is there any other species within a walk from shore you would target?  I've ever been on the big lake before so I don't know the area...  I heard that around Ticonderoga is good for bass in the summer, but don't know anything about winter.

Champlain is so heavy with perch
it has become a practice of selling the catch ( no limit on perch there) which has become a hot topic

Lets not forget that the almighty Tuna is an Ice fishing guide as well. If he wont promote himself I will. The fact that he just listed 6 shanty rentals and guide services with out even mentioning his own service speaks volumes of his character.  You gotta trust a guy like that.

you know that isn't too bad if the fish are there! lol knowing you can have a good time.. easy on off transportation (little sweat hauling your own gear) Plus warm ..plus more beer..plus more hot cooking..plus knowing you can handle all but the most brutal weather forecasts. I would rent a local guide/shanty especially knowing the most expensive part of the trip is burning that 70 dollar tank of gas to commute the 200 to 300+ miles each way! jmho..that iswhy i will wait for at least one of my fishing partners.

    Hello everyone,

Just found this site and it is great! Long time fisherman but only hardwater fishin for 3 seasons but I am hooked hard. love it!

After all of the rain does anyone one think the local lakes are safe? I have already fished Queechy and went in knee deep, I saw that someone already posted that, also fished: snyders, grafton and went up to Lake Harris in Newcomb, that is the place to be!! Some really nice nothern and walleye and 10 inches of ice. Want to go out 01/01/08 but very nervous. I live next to the tomhanock and would be caught out there. Any thoughts?

There's not much ice anywhere. Two to three inches on most lakes. I live on Sacandaga and yesterday there was no one on the ice in the south basin. With the weight of the new snow you need to know what you're doing before you venture out. Be careful !!!!!!

    Dakota:

Crazy me out on the ice of Saratoga Lake Wednesday morning at 5:45am and was it cold with windchill of -3.  Fished for 2 1/2 hrs. without a hit jigging or a flag on my tip-ups.
Looks like Lake Lonely is giving up some nice perch, as I saw a guy at Saratoga Bait & Tackle with some nice ones from there.  I just hate the long walk in on that trail while pulling my sled with all the equipment.
Let me know about the "Hard Water Get Together", as I would really be interested.  May get out this afternoon on Saratoga Lake and will let you know how I make out.
I have fished Great Sacandaga, but their ice heaves scare the hell out of me.  Also, found the walleyes to be small and hard to find.  Actually caught three on my tip-ups one day last year and not a one set off my flags.
