Last week of Oct 2012

I have never been to Burt or Oak Orchard but am planning a trip for my dad and I Oct 26-31 2012. We are looking to catch some kings with oppurtunity to get browns, cohos and steel also. Are we looking to go to early to get into a decent amount of fish?

I have been going up that week the last 6 or 7 years. Burt will have a lot of browns, steelhead and salmon but most of the salmon will be pretty well over the hill that late in the month. Oak Orchard will have browns, steelhead, some coho, other pretty well beat up salmon and, with luck, you may hook an atlantic. The Oak has an established etiquite that the person in a spot first that day "owns" the rights to that spot until he/she says they are finished. It's a very nice experience but if you want a good spot you have to be there early. Good luck ! I enjoy it enough that I go back every year. Expect crowds especially at Burt.

I assume that topdog99 replied to my note on the etiquite observed on the Oak "with tongue in cheek" as on my first trip there in 2003 I was advised of the custom about fifteen minutes after starting to fish at the archer's hole. I fished the Oak again this past October and was asked several times, as I went to the bank, if I was finished or just taking a break.

Greenhead; Topdog is right on about the numbers. Was there the last week of Oct. this past fall and had a great trip. The Salmon were still there and the Brown Trout numbers were starting to pick up. If you want more trout its better in early to mid nov. Did land 3 Atlantics and lost a huge one on my last day. Burt dam is just too crowded for me; although it has a lot of fish in the river at the end of Oct. Marsh Creek had lots of Salmon then; but not many Browns. Just my two cents from a guy that has fished from mid Oct. to mid Nov. for quite a while. Use your feet and you will find nice spots that are not crowded on the Oak.

If u are looking for fresh salmon, u may be too late. However, i was there that exact week in 2011 and slayed the browns and steelies. There are salmon in the streams, but they are all but dead. I plan to go the same week. See ya on the water!

if your looking for fresh salmon hire one of the salmon charter boats in june july or early august while theyre still silver. But the date your looking at coming up here is fine for catching good numbers of trout and salmon
