"new"rod

so on sunday night my wife and I celebrated Christmas with my uncle and his wife due to them going to florida over the holidays. we were at my grandma's house and my old man was there too when my uncle gave me an old rod tube. he said that i would appriciate it more than he could. i opened the tube and it was an old glass rod that still had the plastic on the cork and never had a reel in the seat. it was awsome, then my uncle told me that it belonged to my grandfather whom i have never met. it is my newest favorite rod that will never see the water. some parts of me want to take the plastic of and take HIM fishing with me atleast once. enough blah, blah, blah here are some pics of it.

    Very cool. I love glass rods for small stream fishing. It's not often that someone finds an old one that still has the plastic on the cork.

    If I inherited said rod, I'd be sure to get it bent a few times before hanging it up.... but everyones different.

    Cool man...

    I agree with drake...I'd take it out and bend it...I have my grandad's red/black woolrich jacket and pants...I wear the jacket bear/deer hunting...I have warmer stuff but I feel like my grandad hunts with me every year...

    There's even stuff he left in the pockets that I dont touch...

    That's awesome!
    I have my grandfather's glass rod too. It's a 7' 4pc 6wt Fenwick. It feels like a wet noodle next to my Orvis graphite, but I love that old Fenwick and still fish with it some times on small streams.

    I'm looking forward to giving it to my first grandson. (That is a long time off though my kids a 3 & 4)

    Whatever you decide to do with it, fish with it, or simply keep as an heirloom, it is really cool to have your Grandfathers rod. Awesome Christmas gift!

    nice rod. i'd fish it!! you don't have to take the plastic off the cork to fish with it!!

    Nice. They were decent rods. I have a GC 6' 5wt that throws a nice 4wt line.
    Yours has a silk line designation that = plastic line of 6-level, 7-dt, 7wf.
    The rod  has some collector's value, more so in excellent unused condition.

    I have a glass sage #5 that casts beautifully; id say the heck with the collectors value; go out and catch a trout on it; that will mean more than any collectors value to me; especially if its an heirloom...

    Don't be afraid to use it! I have an old Garcia Conlon ultralite spinning rod - still going strong!
