Reminder ........

Seems like most of you archers are focusing on the hunt and nobody has mentioned about practice during the season. Take some time out and shoot some practice arrows. You may think your good to go but many times loops peeps rest sights get snagged and are out of tune. Take the time to do an equipment check from time to time. You owe it to the game.

Welp, some people on here dis the cross-gunners, but the reality of it is, we get to practice at least one shot every day/eve. that we go out. Got to unload yer bow somehow. I personally shoot it left handed. I am right handed. Now I can shoot my crossbow just as accurately with both hands.

Don't forget to shoot with ALL your hunting gear on. A snagged sleeve or collar can result in wounded game. As colder weather sets in practice with a heavy jacket same as you will wear while hunting. Cross gun users not so much. Watch those scopes as they will fog same as a gun.

Took the 300 wby mag and the 44 mag lever gun to the range. 4 rounds in the wby and it was dead on. Took the 44 out to 50 and couldnt hit squat. Brought it to 25 and I had a 2 ft. grouping. Thought maybe the scope was fubared. Took it off and shot the iron sites. Same result 2 ft. grouping. All over the freakin place. My question is......Do you think the reloads I was shootin could have been that bad? Gonna try some factory ammo and see what happens. Had my uncles shootin it too with same results.

Not likely. If you know the muzzle velocity from the hand loads you could always recheck with the chronograph to see if they lost energy. 2 ft is unheard of at 50 yards. What's the bore look like, did it rust up over the season ? Testing with factory cartridges as you mentioned would be a smart move to start with IMO.

That guns brand new. That was a 2 foot grouping at 25 yards. Factory ammo with a 200 grain bullet is somewhere around 2000 ft. per second. I thought it could be me, but not likely. That is why I had my uncles shoot it too with the same result.

What make and model are we talking about here. This sounds very odd.

Had a 30/30 single shot that was like that, had trouble keeping it on a 4ft sheet of plywood at 50 yards.

We ended up never using it, always figured the barrel was bent....

Had the same trouble with a NEW 44 Mag. Ruger bolt. No wonder they (Ruger) made very few ov that cal. in that mod.

Sell it some collector will snach it up.

Sometimes you got to try different brands of ammo till you find out what the rifle "likes" Believe it or not it makes a difference.

Nephew years ago had a new 06 Browning lever with a nice scope-I  couldnt hit the same part of the target twice in a row- at 100 yds-with the gun rested solid on a bench- always bout 8 inches off someplace diff from the previous shot. Used the iron sights at 50 and the same thing happened only a smaller difference. Tried different ammo too- all factory.
Always kinda wondered if the barrel wasnt seated right. Gun NEVER shot correctly and has been packed away. They even took it to a good shop and had the scope re set with the same results at the range.

Its a Marlin, model 1894. I'm gonna pick up a box of Hornady LeverRevoultion ammo and see if that makes a difference.

I don't care if Larry Potterfield himself loads it, ammo ain't gonna fix a 2 foot group.

    Agreed.

There is something loose, bent, or misalgined somewhere.

If the rifle is new, I would contact the manufacturer and inform them of the situation.

Yep.  Often neglected during the season.  Good thing is I shoot at the end of each hunt. Have been testing some targets for a couple of different manufacturers and trying to shoot the bullseyes out of them to guage their durability and stopping power.

My rifle is a black rifle
