Fresh meat!

Had to hunt yesterday even though it was 64 degrees. Set up near a white oak with lots of sign(tracks, dropping). 5:30  4 doe walked out of the thick stuff. Shot her a little high(knocked her down). Little blood so I backed out. Found her this morning 200 yards away. Belly full of corn and acorns!!  Good luck guys!!! Never thought I would see anything because of the temp.

Congrats... nice to hear you followed up and found her... enjoy the venison !!!!

I have not got a chance to get out yet, finishing up my summer "to do" list and still cutting firewwod for winter ...

lots of deer still feeding on the neighbor's apples from the two trees that are still loaded with apples...

and I'm headed to Erie on Sunday morning for some perch fishing with "the redneck perch fisherman"!!!

Just want to know. How was the meat? I've never left a archery deer overnight in warm weather.I have backed out but return after 2 -4 hours to track and recover my deer.

NOW I'm getting hungry.. only managed one deer last year instead of the usual two.. so we've been out of venison for awhile... I may have to make plans to get out on Friday with the crossbow rather than wait for the senior antlerless hunt next week...

Good deal! Best thing is to cool the meat as soon as you can. Ice in the chest cavity is usually best in cases like yours until the processor can skin and get into cooler. Congrats!

Strap a bag of ice in between the hams and tie it in there as well. The biggest hunks of meat cool the slowest, the more ice, the better as the hide is just a giant blanket holding residual body heat in.

I have shot many in warm weather and recovered them the next morning, all have been fine. Don't find it till 2 pm on the next day with 70 degree temps however and be prepared to make hamburger or something.

My biggest fear when leaving one overnight is something eating at it. They always seem to go for the hind quarters. You guys with SUV's should watch putting your deer inside of the vehicle in warm weather. Happen to me a while back and had a long ride with all the ticks.

Check out the wolf kills out west. They often only eat the fetus out of pregnant females and leave the rest of the carcass.
