my word of advice...get a setup of value and interest...just in case you don't like it, it will be easier to sell.

I don't think he was asking anything about building a center pin.

start talking to other pinners on the water. They all will be buying 2 handed fly rods soon once they get their fill of the pin. I am sure you could pick up one of their set ups. If they are nice they will even wipe the egg juice off before giving it to you.

I started with a Sheffield and it is a good reel for the money (I also hear good things about the new Raven). If you like CP you will likely upgrade quick. Buy what you can afford (used is a nice option..a used islander around $200 or so would be good). I really like a Paine Falls due to quality,it is American made along with the support and service you get.The rod is another issue...figure out where you will do the bulk of your fishing ...then this will guide you to the length, line rating and next is the action YOU prefer. Next is do I buy a production rod or get one made from a builder. Remember there are benefits and drawbacks on each side.
There are alot of helpful and knowledeable people on here to help guide you. If you are worried about too many little or silly questions you can PM alot of the guys on here and they will help.
If you can borrow an outfit to start that is another great piece of advice. Then if you like it buy the best you can afford. (remember used is a good option to start out and you can turn it around without a loss if you get a good buy). Good Luck
