Im still getting into ice fishing but i was wondering if tip ups apply to the 2 lines in the water law? it isnt stated clearly in the laws on the pfbc website...last year i only used one ice rod last year because thats all i had but now i have two rods and was looking into tip ups but i didnt want to waste the money if i couldnt use them..

cp, you can use no more than 5 lines ice fishing. I usually use 1 rod and 3 tip ups, but sometimes put another rod in if its slow

Actually you can use two rods and 3 tip ups per person. This was clearified to me last year while ice fishing @ Glade Mills Lake by the WCO . Only five lines are permitted per person two of which may be reels with fishing poles . The rest have to be tip ups to be legal or you may use 5 tip ups . ECT .

This is right from the PFBC web site.  You are allowed 5 lines, doesn't matter what type, rods, tipups, handlines. They changed this law several years ago, can't remember exactly when, but it was definitely long before last year. So if a WCO really did tell you that last year, then he/she was mistaken.

    "
ICE FISHING EQUIPMENT -- It is unlawful while ice fishing to use more than five fishing devices, which may consist of rods, hand lines, tip-ups, or any combination. Each device shall contain a single fishing line with no more than three hooks attached to each line. Holes cut in ice may not exceed 10 inches between the farthest points as measured in any direction. All lines, rods, or tip-ups shall be under the immediate control of the person using them. On Fish & Boat Commission lakes, shelters, or shanties must be removed when through fishing for the day."

that law was changed last year. they had changed it and posted it online just after ice season started.  but it definetly was last year that it was changed.

Not that it matters when it was changed, it only matters what the regs are now. But I knew it was before last year, so I looked at the old boards.  The old thread indicates that the WCO update on Feb. 11 2004 had the updated regs written in it.

Makes a cool set up for panfish. 5 rods in holders around your chair...

That would have been great last feb. out on PI bay. The crappies were running in schools, up and down the bay. You could tell when they were coming your way. Everybody in their lane would start getting bites. I should have had 5 rods in holders.
