Grannoms

Anyone else totally disgusted over this high water.

Doubt we'll see any bugs til next week. Even then the water will be high.

Yeah, Dan. I figure it'll be high for the grannoms and super low for the sulphurs. All this rain and cool weather in the spring usually says something about the upcoming summer temps and water levels.. hope I'm wrong, but mother nature usually isn't.

If we get what they are calling for tomorrow and a warm up with sun next week, we may not get to wade fish the hatch at all.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

    This certainly sucks.

What I see happening is when the water does come down, a whole bunch of different species of flies will hatch over top of each other and I will be about one fly behind when the trout decide to switch species about every 5 minutes or so.

That's why they make wooly buggers. Just hard to get them to float on top.

Not much of anything works well when a very fishable (and not downright dangerous to wade) flow rate is 300 CFS and it is rolling around 3,000.

There is a new hatch added this year so it will be more complicated than ever. It is the bridge green sparrow hatch which is scheduled to peak April 24. They will be on until the green drakes are done. Sorry to be the bad news bear, Shawn.

Dan hasn't been on for a while. Did he really throw his puter as his icon suggests ?

    I'm still around....

I've been busy doing some line testing , anywhere the water is not blown out. With my work travels, tying, and recently finding out my wife and I are expecting our first in mid November, I've been pretty busy.

The fishin may get very interesting once the river comes down in a week or so. We'll be seeing grannoms, little black caddis, tan caddis, baetis, blue quills all at once, not to mention the gray foxes and sulphurs aren't far away. I did see a few grannoms on friday, but by no means enough to get the fish's interest, even if the water was down.

Fished Spruce on Sunday. The water was up with some color, but we still managed a dozen or so fish. Didn't see any grannoms, but we did se a few little black caddis.

I thought the sparrows ate all the green drakes last year.... or was it the year before?

They raise them in hatcheries, then stock them.

Congrats on the news about the new addition.  I hear that there is a 2nd shift child care provider available to you if you want to go hunting/fishing.

If things get any worse water-wise, we will need chest waders to even fish off the bridges.

    Grannoms were out today...

I'm heading out in the early AM. Weather doesn't looks so hot, and the river should be around 3.5', but I'm fishing it anyway. Probably won't see any fish on top, but they should be happy to eat some pupas.

Didn't see a single bug come out of the water today. There were a few in the trees.

Caught a bunch of fish on sulpur nymphs.

Looks like we're getting an inch of rain over the weekend. We'll be fishin off the bridges. I call dibs on the one in Barree.
