Walnut

Yesterday around 2:00 did anyone see the little kid fall off the wall right befors the bridge? If he would of fell maybe 2 feet earlier he would of hit his head off the rocks and that wouldn't of been good!!! They should put some sort of sing that says "STAY OFF THE WALL" or something like that....

I saw a kid actually fishing off that wall on walnut the other day.  It did not seem to occur to him that if he did hook a fish, it would be darn near impossible to land it with him up on that high wall.  Momma always said, "Stupid is as stupid does."

It is a long drop for anyone.  That wall is a hazard, especially when covered in ice and snow.  I would suggest not walking on it if possible.

The Fish Commission should do more to keep people off of the high banks and walls.  The other problem besides falling is errosion.  All the people clamoring down the bank at the new log hole has torn up the bank something fierce.  They should block that off and make people walk down the path that was put into place to allow people a safer and easier way to get to the stream.  That way there will be less bank errosion and less problems with people falling.  Of course, that means you might have to walk a few extra yards and for some people that could mean a minute or two less of fishing....

Maybe they should put a sign on every high bank, or maybe a guardrail. Then they could put "caution slippery when wet signs on all the rocks. After all we wouldn't want people to use their HEADS. The outdoors, and the world in general are not child, or idiot proof, and you can not protect EVERY one, from EVERY thing. The example Bug gave is the proof. An easily navigable path, with a handrail was created, yet some choose to risk going over the bank. It reminds me of the MILES of sidewalks I helped install at SRU. As soon a you built one, students would make a path between it, and some other spot so another walk was contracted. The same with pathways on the tribs. No matter how many you build, folks will still take a "shortcut". and some may even get hurt in the process.

we have enough cluttering of signs in the U.S. of A. what we need is for people to use common sense which they don't teach in school.the lawyers make money from the people that don't use common sense and the courts award the stupid idiots money for being so ignorant!!! the mcdonalds hot coffee is a good exmpl. do you realize that because of all the safety garbage on products now days for the stupid people makes the merchindise price go up. that's why a simple lawn mower costs so much. some idiot put his hands underneath to see if the blade was turning. we don't need any more signs!!!!!

That might have gotten the idea from the 3 men that were fishing off that wall on Sunday.

    Jigmaster,

I just cannot see how anyone with half a brain would think that fishing off of a high wall is a good idea.  It is obvious they have never tried to land a steelie.  Of course, it would be a good show to watch them if they did hook up...  There is always a good show down at the access area.

I guess you could always just dive in after the fish.  I have seen idiots do that with a net.  It is not all that uncommon for someone's buddy to pick up a net and then get into the water with the fish and try and land it.

There was an older gentlemen this morning trying to land a steelie with a small net one would use on a typical trout stream, all the while trying not to get into the water because he only had a pair of calf high rubber boots on.  I thought for sure he was going in head first a couple of times, but he didn't.  Someone gave him a larger net and he netted the fish.

I think if youre gunna go after a steely with a small net and try not to get into the water, you might as well beach it...

    cp13,

These guys were meat fisherman and were roping the fish as soon as they came out of the water, plus where they were standing, there really was no place to beach them, they pretty much had to net them.  I honestly think they were doing the best they could with the equipment they had, but from the looks of it, they were not really geared up with what most folks would use for steelies.

Yeah ,yeah, yeah  let's put up a sign  "Keep away you might fall" kids are naturally curious ,he fell ,it happens .The only one at fault here is the peckerhead that stood and didn't help the lad out.
At 35 I still do things and say "man that was dumb" ,guess I'm still just a curious kid.
Accidents happen ,thats why it's called an accident.
I can hear those dumb parents now "hey little johnny go see how close to the edge you can get ,so you can see the fish"
