Good day on PI Bay!
I take back everything I said bad about this year's ice fishing season on Presque Isle. Well - it was bad there for a while.
Anyway, went off Chestnut this morning and was busy for three hours. Kept 18 perch - half a dozen of which were 11/12 inches, threw back a ton.
Caught them about 2 to 1 Genz Worm with maggots (size 8, chartreuse/orange) over chartreuse jigging Rapala (size 3). They both seem to have their place.
Ice was good, but I was a tad nervous with few people being out and the sun out and wind howling. I don't like walking over that black ice! I'm betting the surface will firm up over night with temps to be in the 20's an a good wind should make for good chill/freeze factor. Leastwise, I'm planning on going back out tomorrow morning. If the ice survives a few days of that tropical weather, we might make it til March!
