Help with auger sharpening

Hello All

I recently purchased an older Fin-BoreIII auger. This unit has a removable head not just the blades (similar to a Nils). I received both a six inch and eight inch cutting head that will need sharpening after this season. Does anyone know where I can get them sharpened? Bud Hall said he can not do it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Hi Parks Guy,
I haven't ever had blades sharpened, but there was a recent thread about it... may be a starting point to look at...

    http://forums.fishusa.com/m_365613/mpage_1/key_auger%252Cblades/tm.htm#365613

Didn't read all of it, so don't know how many places are listed. Good luck in your search though.

On a side note... has anyone ever checked to see if folks who sharpen saws/ lawn mower blades/ chain saw chains would sharpen auger blades? Quite a few of those shops around...

Hand Auger blades can be sharpened, I have been doing mine for about 5 yrs, Remove the blades and use a fine grain stone. hone from left to right using counter clockwise strokes. Blades can be honed from the beveled or upper side only, never touch the flat or bottom side with the stenciled name on it for deburring. this will destroy the blades, you want to feel a burr all the way across the flat side, that is how you know it its sharp, never remove the burr. This does work . John
