Area Ice Fishing Report
Went out Friday the 17th for the first time this year, and the first time I can remember getting out before Christmas since the 70's.
I started at Misery Bay and worked a couple holes for about an hour and a half and got nothing. I drove by Horseshoe and nobody was out, so I check out the North Pier to see if there were any hardy burbot fisherman. No one was there or across on the South Pier either.
Next I went to the Marina and hit paydirt! Two perch and a bluegill in about an hour, all on a small chartreuse jig head loaded with maggots.
Today (Saturday) I drove down to Woodcock around 0900 and no one was out and I was alone, so discretion being the better part of valor, I headed up to Edinboro Lake. There was one hut north of the point close to shore, but I think they access from private property there. No one was out along 99, went back to the fingers and still nobody out fishing, so....
Out to Lake Pleasant. There were a half dozen guys out and man, was it cold and windy. Hopped in my hut and fished for about an hour and a half - one hit, one 14-inch rainbow on a chartreuse jigging Rapala (W3). That was it for the day. As I left I measured the ice thickness - three inches! WOW, a little thin for my liking. I was close to shore, but in 17FOW.
Gotta be making ice with these cold nights, barring a thaw, ice should improve day by day....
