weight cant be farther than 4 feet away...your last shot on your shot line. you can put a swivel on 18" from you split shot and a 2 ft leader as long as the distance from hook to weight isnt more than 4 ft. and as stated 15 foot tippet for fly fishing. You can also fish with you weight below your hook unless you are fishing oswego, cayuga coujnties and the genesee river (monroe county) from the driving park bridge upstream to the lower falls. Also you cant have more than 1/8th oz weight on an artificial fly...i assume jig/wooly buggers etc. but no restrictions on weight for sinkers and split shot.
