Boating on the Oak and Olcott

I haven't fished Olcott and Oak since '88. Can someone tell me if I could still take a boat up these creeks (without disturbing shore anlers)?

I personally have never taken my boat up, but have talked with some folks that take smaller boats up 18 mile creek, they have had luck and, from what I understand there is plenty of water to fish without disturbing anyone. As far as The Oak, no clue.

you could probly get a small aluminum boat almost to the dam in 18 mile. As far as not interferring with other people your wrong you will have so much line or people wound up in your prop, people would have a fit. I could easily underhand a soft ball across the creek. With the rocks that stick up and shallow water I wouldnt do it.....unless it was summer and there isnt a million people there. I have seen kayaks come up but never past the walkway or fishing area and I have see a bass boat come up to the walkway(where it comes down the hill to the water from the parking lot) and never any further and in the summertime. But that is 1/4 mile from the dam and a gravel bottom and a deeper area. I launch out of olcott to go out on to the lake but never went up stream. Good luck

I have to disagree with you dewey, there's a lot of water from the walking entrance to the lake and the creek really opens up the further downstream you get. I have caught fish from shore under the bridge just above the harbor. Id bet that trolling spoons or drifting sacs would entice a few.

im talking farther down...where the fishing access to the dam is. not the harbor. I never went up stream always out to the lake in a boat. I guess you would have almost a mile of creek before it gets shallow. I have seenboats in there but like i said turn around where the fishing access is toward the dam. I guess i have in my head someone trying to get up to the dam in a boat and fish.

Thanks for the input. I used to boat both creeks back in the day with no trouble, but I guess things change in time.

U can take whoevers word you would like to, but a small boat has plenty of room to fish, just not anywhere near the ****, u would have access to the fish that have not yet been pressured and have not come all the way up the creek yet. From approx 500yds downstream of the **** all the way to the lake. Id give it a shot, and if u can't, then just break out the waders and join the circus at the dam :)

saw a boat t the end of the path the other day at 18 mile was that you? looked like a 12 foot boston whaler. he was just anchored sitting there. dont know if he was fishing or drinking beer but it was the 2nd time i have seen a boat in there. I wouldnt take a fiberglass boat up 18 mile creek but im not telling you not to. like salmon slayer said you wont be up near the dam. If you decide to go in there let us know how you do.
