I looked this morning on my way to State College, while it definately came up a little bit, its not rip roaring. In fact, its still gin clear. But, based on work Ive done previously, it typically takes 12 hours or more till you see a stream top out from the time it stops raining. Definately not enough to blow the grass out.

The entire stream is all catch and release.  However, with the exception of the paradise you can use bait/flies/artificials...ect. There are quite a few access areas along the creek.  The entire creek holds a good population of wild browns, along with the occasional rainbow that slid out of one the hatcheries.  Flies I have been doing well on have been red/gold rib and zebra midges in sizes 20-24.  I also have been catching a few fish on tan/olive scuds and cressbugs.  Hope this helps.

Esox, never heard of a cressbug, could you describe? I have done well on size 18 prince nymphs as well. It seems like the smaller the better, these fish are fished for year round.

Its called a Shenk's cress bug, (Ed Shenk designed it).  It was originally developed to fish Carlisles meadow type limestoners (slow water & cress filled)  You can either tie it with sculpin wool, or form a dubbing loop and use zonkers or similar material.  I like either olive or tan, and sometimes a mix on a 14-16 tmc 2457.

lol...I can't imagine your serious.  I never have met the guy but a few of his fly patterns always have a place in my box.

Salmo, honestly have you ever met him?  I have heard nothing but good things about him.  Also have heard he frequents Cold Spring Angler flyshop.  I figure that is your neck of the woods, and I have only been there a handful of times.

Yes- I am serious. He is my mentour and I know him well. I cut my learning curve by nine tenths thanks to Ed taking a likeing to me. Every year I have my mom make him a Black Raspberry Pie as payment for the knowledge.
He and I are far apart in age, but kindred spirits. He is a great friend.
Over the last year or so I haven't seen him much, but yes he goes to that shop. Usually shows up about 10:30 and stays till lunch time. Oh the storys he has handed down to me!
I just got a mailer from Cold Springs. Retirement sale. I know Herb (the owner) is about 70. I need to see whats up. Will post when I know. I live a mile or so from there so I should get in there soon.

S14 send me your addy if you need a few cress/sow bugs. I will send a few.
They don't look like much- but I hear they work well on limestoners.

Wow...truly must have been amazing learning with a legend. I can only imagine how much time that would cut off the learning curve.

I wish I could have had someone knowledgeable like that to help me when I
started.  Instead I read alot, and spent LOTS of time on the water.

Be a real shame to see that shop close.  I stop in there everytime im in the area.  They are some really nice and knowledgeable people, which is hard to come by in most shops.

I stopped in this morning and yes they are closing up at the end of the year.
Everything in house is 25% off right now.
I talked to Shenk. He was up in Newfoundland Salmon fishing the last time I looked him up. Said he caught one Salmon. About 20 lb..
If you don't have his book it's pretty good. Made me fall in love with the Letort even before I ever laid eyes on it.

    Fishinbug,

I would stick to the Paradise section and downstream or too Benner Springs.  Both locations are easy to locate. It’s where the hatchers are located.  Paradise is FFO no wading until you are upstream of the grassy area.
Don’t show up without midges, muskrat nymphs / cess bug and Baetis nymphs.

Fished on Saturday during Penn State football game.  No one was fishing.  Water is very low and clear.  I used 7x tippet and size 24 midges, dry and larva.  Hooked about 7 small fish, all under 10 inches, mostly on the larva patterns.  The stream desparately needs rain.

Finally got some rain this week.  The stream came up a few inches and yesterday water was cloudy.  Today water is clearing.  Over the weekend there was a nice hatch of BWOs, size 20 & 22.  Many trout were rising to them.

Hey- where's the Report and Pics from last weekend? Patiently waiting...
Still haven't tied the flies, but will get around to it this weekend if I can round up all of my hunting stuff in time to go sit in the woods on Monday.

We did really good, it started out slow though, fished Walnut Friday night, I land two with several hook ups lost, and blacknosedace had several one but lost them all. Saturday fished Girard Park in the morning I have a few hook ups but nothing landed, blacknosedace, caught 3 and had plenty of hook ups, then we hit Walnut at the Rt.5 Bridge I landed one, missed another. Sunday was the day thought, Elk was just perfect, fished right about the new road bridge below the high train trestle, on the fish all day, blacknosedace caught at least 15, and lossing quite a few more, and I landed around 10 loosing a few as well. Here's some pictures............I have been patiently waiting for those's flys......running hope to check the mail everyday.......lol....

    Strong Work Men!

Sorry for the delay. I had to tie a dozen flies for a swap on a crazy site I dabble in. It took all I had to get those off.
Some dude from Ireland had his flies in before me. lol
The stuff is laying here. One more night- then I'm off for a while.
Right now I'm off to bed.

I got the pics. I'm pretty upset I couldn't go after seeing how it went. You boys can either lay it down (my term for those who can fish), or you were just lucky. I should think the first is true.
As for keeping some fish- I do the same on my trips. Gotta have evidence for the wife. LOL I too must find a good Y stick to carry them because I don't own a stringer.
In case you guys didn't know I frequent the Salmon River NY Board too.
Here's a pic from my last trip there a month age to prove I give one the coup de gras on occasion too. It's put and take. I could never lower the priest on a wild fish.
Don't mind the grey Goat. I'm not that old. 3 kids. 2 of them are twins...lol
