    Sorry no report here,yet.
Bad night sleeping. Had to drown some things out.
If you went how did it go in the heat?
I didn, see a single flock last evening. Sat till dark.
I saw many in fields on the way to the ponds I was going to hunt but nothing on the ponds.

Mikastorm,my son and I hit and Ohio, Col.Co. sweet corn field that was mowed down, nothing till 8:02,about 30 with about 20 some trailing a few hundered yards behind, first flock flaired but with some fast clucking they circled and locked,6 shots 4 down, second flock circled and came in seconds later 5 shots 3 down,4 also landed in the coys, but we where not sure how many we had so we didn't shoot, the 4 lifted and where not shot at but could have been killed, better safe than sorry,I'm not into paying $100 fines,so all and all nice first day 11 shots fire 7 dead,no cripples. No bands either.

Thats great! Ya, the fields the place to be.
Will not be till Friday for me to get out. Maybe by then it will cool off some.
The cold front should get them moving. Lets hope.
Good shooting and get many more.

Went out for a few hrs. this morning.
Knocked two down with broken wings. Shooting to the left.
Mika did a good job bringing one in but while she did the other got away.
Never saw a goose dive and disappear. Seen ducks do it but geese?

Got 7 on Friday,in Ohio, still no bands, hit a fresh cut corn field,I saw them there thursday morning, and smoked them friday morning, had company on another farm several hunderd yards away, those guy's where great callers, but I've learned years ago you can't make them come to where they don't want to go.A little tip scout, scout, scout and then scout somemore, and know exacactly where they land in the field and be there the next day.Browing Gold preforming beautiful,as did my sons new Berretta Xtrema 2 two great goose killers.3 1/2 inch No.1's 13 stone dead 1 runner( over 45 yard shot) and my son ran him down.Maybe one more hunt in Ohio,it goes out the 15 th. Good luck to all you honker hunters.

Did a quick hunt on Monday, first flock landed 400 yards away, not a good sign, second flock flew between real birds and dec's and kept on going, them a pair, they also flew by then 6 birds circle twice and locked,Bull emptied his gun,two down,I got one shot off and dropped a big bird.Three birds, not a great hunt but 3 is better than none.It goes out on the 15th so I guess where done for now.

Been hitting Shenango and seeing a few. They have smartened up pretty good.
Had three flocks come in to my calling but staying way too high.
I haven,t set up any decoys , may be the only way to get them down.
Seeing more and more birds of pray flying around. Sure sign of fall.
Mika took off on me yesterday. I hollered but she kept going. She came back with a groundhog.
It bit her and she flung it up in the air and when it hit the ground she grabbed it and shook the
crap out of it. One dead hog.lol Why do they hate ghogs so much?

LOL i dont really know why hmmmm

i know good decoys help. i really havent seen them hurt unless they look bad(shiney, set up weirdly, fallen over at a bad time lol..i dont like siloettes at all). but i mean calling when they dont see a goose around might seem honkerish

Tuna Do you cook/roast those birds? Or do you smoke/make jerky? I used to kill a pile of birds @ moraine. One time I got Just sick as a dog from one.Now I just don't hunt them anymore. Can't kill what I won't eat. Although flight birds are fair to roast. By the time they come in I'm late season deer hunting or doing the snow removal thing and on call 24/7

    RE: Geese 2010/10/29 11:41:53 (permalink)
Went out this morning with my son and his black lab.
It was raining then turned to sleet then rain.
A flock of mallards came off first. Would have been perfect
shots. After 45 minutes we were getting colder so decided to jump them.
My son went one way around the pond and I cut behind an island.
I wasn,t quite around to the back side of the island when
I hear the geese getting antsy. Then up they go and I hear my son shoot
but they flew straight up the pond and I picked one out. It was a good
60 yds to the birds. I knocked the one I aimed at and unloaded at another.
I,m walking over towards where the bird went down and see my son coming up behind me.
I asked if he got any and no was his reply. Then a goose takes off but unable to fly and I nail it.
The dog jumps in and swims to the bird, turns it over onto its back then swims back to us with no bird.
We throw sticks and rocks to get him to get the bird. No good. So we walked around the pond
to be closer to the birds. That dog would go to the birds but just jumped over them.
After an hr. of this we take the dog back to the truck. I knock on the land owners door and asked to
use her lab and back to the birds. He goes right in and grabs the one goose then swims to the island
and starts tearing that bird up. He ait the thing up and finally came back to us.
Took him back and washed him up. I had enouigh of this and said goodbye to my son.

The moral of the story.........get a female!
If I would have had Mika , those birds would have been cleaned and ready to eat.
