any bucks yet

The hunting this year just seems to be unreal. I hunt at least four or five days a week, and see nice bucks all the time. It just seems to be one of them years, when you can see'em but you can't shoot'em. The local taxadermy said that there was only one buck brought in so far. Please if anybody has had these kinds of problems, post something for me.

I think it has been right on course in 2B, been seeing normal amount of deer, grunted in a pretty good 8pt with some kickers today at 8:30. Stopped broadside to me at 25 yds. he went about another 25 after the shot. about 17 inside, 5 inch brows, 6,7 g 2s and 3s and 4.5 bases. butcher's scale said it went 195 lbs, I think it was a little off, looked and felt a lot lighter.

Things have been slow because of the heat.  I've seen some scrubs chasing in the daylight.  Some nice ones with does at night.  I've even seen a couple laying down together.  Scary to see that.

Moses .. you got a pic ?  Sounds like a good one.  Congrats to you.

I took a small 8 pt yesterday morning, I saw him Sat. night, but couldn't get a shot, yesterday he was chasing some does, I figured why not take him with being retired the the rain on its way the steelhead should be up the creeks and also holding  a Archery tag for N.Y. my mind was made up real quick.  Good luck out there, it is only going to get better.

I forgot to mention in my post earlier, that the buck died about 400 ft down  a steep hill near the creek, and the deputy game warden helped me drag it up to my truck and load it.  If you have had a bad experience with a wildlife officer weather Fish or Game, that goes to show you that that one bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bushel.   Thanks Jack for the help.  John

I have passed the same two bucks (7 and 8 point) several times so far.  The bigger deer that I have on my trail cams have eluded me thus far.  Plenty of doe sightings but my buck sightings have dropped like a stone.

I notice this pattern this time of the year.  Mid October to just before Halloween is slow for me. But I am out there several times a week and have the last week off to hunt dawn to dusk.

Watch a real trouphy for a week while Going duck hunting. Saw him along the road with the horns cut off. What a shame.

A 6 pt got hit two days ago.  Messed up the guys car pretty bad.

I get a phone call  -- "big buck hit, huge body -- its head is cut off"

I went down, same deer just bloated, no head.

You think people would start to slow down a little.  It's the same folks almost everyday.  That's the 10th buck in 4 weeks.  That's just what I know of.

Yes John, it is a shame.  Farmers way of herd reduction.  Plant the crops on the other side of the road from the deers bedding areas.

Its the hot weather thats keeping things slow. This is by far the hottest October on record in Central PA (seriously, I deal with PA climate records daily). If it stays warm through the rut, they will chase them at night when its cooler. FYI, it looks a tad cooler by Sunday...I will be be hunting heavy early next week.

You think people would start to slow down a little. It's the same folks almost everyday. That's the 10th buck in 4 weeks. That's just what I know of.

Yes John, it is a shame. Farmers way of herd reduction. Plant the crops on the other side of the road from the deers bedding areas.

Soooooo, what you're saying now is that vehicles and their drivers along with the farmers are to blame for you and others not getting your buck yet???????

On a rural road, we should all drive 10 mph just incase one of your AR bucks steps out on the road????????

You know of a small group af people driving around hitting deer after deer????  If that one is true, you should contact their insurance company right away, 'cause that would be fraud.  Oh, wait, the insurance companies might be paying them to do this.

Here's the best one...  farmers should MOVE THEIR FIELDS so the AR bucks can live until you get to shoot them???????????

You actually believe a farmer PURPOSEFULLY considers risking human life in exchange for a few dead deer.  Oh, and they only want the AR bucks killed.  No outrage when it's a dead doe on the road.  They decide, "Hmmm.  That field my Great Grandfather cleared 75 years ago would make a great place to attract deer from the other side of the road.  If I just plant some corn there, I bet them trophy bucks will try to walk across the road... then WHAM!"

    To quote you, "Good grief!"

I really think you are spending WAY too much time out there with those deer.  Be careful you don't start growing antlers.  Have you taught any how to type yet????

TT -- shut up.  People are driving 70-75 mph on this road and hitting deer al most daily.  buck, doe, turkey, and the like.  It's a 55 mph max limit.   I didn't blame anyone on anything.

    I will not.

As for the speed issue, I'm sorry you live on a road where the speed limit is 55.  That must suck.  I'd move if I were you.  Then again, I live on a street that is 25, and idiots race from stop sign to stop sign.  I don't get that, never will.  That still doesn't explain not only your, but most other people's spoken and typed outrage at dead bucks on the sides of the roads.  Not until your response to me were doe, turkey, and "the like" mentioned.  If they had been, then I wouldn't have commented (which is my right) on the topic.

"Farmers way of herd reduction.  Plant the crops on the other side of the road from the deers bedding areas."

    Blame, blame, blame, blame.
That's actually a weird word once one types it multiple times.

I'm really not trying to pick a fight, but that's just rediculous.  I can't even think of an analogy to make, it's so rediculous.  I tried to with fish jumping a waterfall, and it just fell apart.  You've spent plenty of time on here calling out absurd claims, as I have.  I just can't fathom how you made that connection.

    A little hostile???

Chill out.  My only problem is your pompous attitude about deer hunting.  I certainly don't loose any sleep over it.  You always know more, and you always have the answers.  If you know so much, please get a job with the PAGC, because WE the hunters need someone in there like you.  The problem with that is, you're not always right.  Nobody is.  Good luck with the anger management.

As far as knowing the facts, all I know is what you type.  You type it, we all can react to it.  I choose to react this way.  You choose to react angrily.

Shut up.  You shut up.  No, you shut up.  No, you shut up.

It's called a discussion board.  I can have a discussion.  You can too, I've taken part in them with you.  Don't tell me... you've been taking pain medication and drinking Jim Beam????

    OK, I shouldn't get involved here.....but I am.

The road I believe Jon is talking about is nonstop corn/alfalfa fields. I travel it on my way to my office 5 days a week. Deer are hit there daily. In the past week I have seen good numbers of deer killed there. Most of them bucks. It is a bad scenario for the deer. The fields are all right next to the roads, and deer often have to cross the roads in order to get a meal/drink. Whether or not the farmers planned it that way, I dont know, but I do believe Jon was just adding some humor rather than truly suggesting they planned it that way. I wouldn't put it past those farmers to like the setup they have, since, afterall I hear many of them shoot deer with spotlights and could care less if we have a deer herd or not.

.....just an opinion from someone else who travels that road, often.

It's 25 mph in front of my place.
