vrib - stretching? Thinning?
Ok guys, maybe you can help me here. I own about every color of vrib known to man. In sizes ranging from the smallest to largest. One thing I hate about this stuff is the bulk of the material, it lets nasty tye in and tye off points. My question is, can you strech it? Ive tried stretching it by hand, pulling it... heating it with a lighter. I want this crap to be FLAT... THIN. Can you lay it between two sheets of wax paper and hit it with an iron? Any reasonable suggestions I will try. If you have somthing that WORKS, please speak up.

Interesting, I'm guessing you don't want just a smaller diameter, like midge tubing? You want a wide profile, but thin in cross section. I'd try the iron thing, that might work.

v-rib is definetley not the way to go for making overlapping segmented bodies. Body stretch is good or go buy a bag of assorted colored balloons and simply cut in strips. Body stretch is semi translucent...nice stuff!!

I'll make an angle cut and tie in using just the very end of the rib as it is now a fine point. It sometimes will pull loose but give it another shot. Tom ORIGINAL: jlh42581 well **** it, give me some ideas on how to slim the profile, im not gonna just chuck this stuff.

Thanks guys Silverwipe... thats my desk but it usually looks like th \igpen also. Ive added a few more small storage compartments, little plastic ones with drawers, picked them up at the World for about $5. Money well spent. You wanna hear somthing funny, that was my dining table in college. How I ever sat my family at that is beyond me. Of course my appt was about 500 sq/ft... when i moved into my house which is 1500 excluding the basement and attic, it looked BARE!

If you can find some Swannundaze, thats the best. It's been off the market for about 10 years, but shows up on e-bay quite often. Orvis has a product called body glass that is similar. I agree with flytyerone, V-rib is not the way to go. With Swannudaze or body glass you can cut a piece about 6" long, grap each end with a pair of pliers and run hot water on the material while pulling each end until you get the desired with. Then dunk in ice water to keep the sizeThat 6" strip will stretch to 12 to 15". You might want to try that with the v-rib but I think you wasted your money!

Im trying to double the duty, i still use it as standard ribbing on nymphs.
