guess i should have seen that coming...so your rigger balls dont plane up at all?..i have an insane amount of big eyes sittin over top of smelt..tired of vert jigging over spread fish..so 10 lb should keep an original rapala or a thunderstick where i need it at 1.5-2 mph?

I bought 10 lb pancake weights from Cableas. They work really well with a lot less swayback than regular balls. Also they have a metal fin comming off the back of the dish that you can "tweek" Just a little. By tweeking them right or left, you can make them spread away from the boat. The thing I don't like about riggers is that when I'm fishing Erie for Walleye with them, I wind up catching those goofy white bass that are not big enough to trip my release, so I drag them around for awhile. More of a release problem than than the riggers I guess. I'm going to try using just dipsy's this year. They seem like they would be a little easier to dial in.

Gremlin get some ten lbers and the blowback at walleye speeds down 40 will only put you off about 2'-3' there is a chart you can use here http://www.lakemichiganangler.com/tips/downrigger_depth.htm Finster try changing your releases. Blacks releases are what I use and they have a thumb screw to tighten and loosen the release tension. When fishing Erie I can set them light so if a small fish hits the lure it will trip and if fishing Ontario I can tighten it.They carry them at Fish USA and can be found here.http://www.fishusa.com/Blacks-Downrigger-Release-Clip_p.html It is so much more fun bringing in a fish without the dipsy, I love my riggers. Mostly self taught on them because I could not get "help" with them when I bought the boat that had them installed. I used the cannon pincher releases, Walkers and a few others and the Blacks have worked the best. If I can help with anything else let me know.

at 26' you don't need riggers add snap weights to your line 50' ahead of your crank to get it where u want it, jets would work aslo. If eye fishing either one of these off boards, big or inline will put them dumb toothy critters in the boat.

I need need riggers cuz im not on erie im on a smaller water.I need to be able to run tight contours around humps and points. if im just puttin on weight id have my whole rig stuck on the second turn or waste too much time waiting for it to straighten out. I might as well jig. I just asked in this forum because alot of you guys have the downriggers figured out.

If you get snagged from adding snap weights and don't hang your riggers up your not doing it right plain and simple, walleye are gun shy they don't like big balls in their faces no matter what lake your on. you need long leads to be consistently successful with riggers and eyes.
