I watched that episode (Alaska). Before he even wet a line, he stated that the salmon won't bite and it's legal in Alaska to line/snag fish. If that's true...whats the problem?

I don't always snag fish, but when I do...
    I choose Little Cleos

Legal or not, it is still pretty pathetic to watch.

Come on now, even Larry Csonka can catch them legitimately using flies. I also haven't figured out why he needed a fly rod to snag em. Seems like the whole snagging justification he provided was only because he couldn't catch one in the mouth.

I saw that........taught me how to line fish correctly........

I also saw an In-Fisherman episode that showed some dude all amped up about opening season of paddlefish.....not sure where he was, but said he could keep one fish.......I'm watching and watching.......and low and behold the dude is launching a huge TREBLE and snagging the paddlefish........said it was legal........he walked a good bit of shoreline before he landed the fish.........I think I threw up a little in my mouth.......and decided to not watch in-fisherman anymore.........

I came accross that episoid. Should have renamed that show "In-snaggerman."

How did the person who invented the first clock know what time it was?

FYI, Paddlefish eat only plankton and the only way to catch them is snaggin. All throughout the Midweast it is an accepted way to "fish" for them. Not my bag though...WF

boy that grizzly bear almost got them.
I think he was using the fly rod cause its easier to snag the fish. heavier line and the motion of hooking.

No doubt this will draw criticism ,but because snagging is an accepted method of taking fish in some parts of the country does not indicate that it should be judged as a means of sportsmans' behavior in other parts of the country . Put simply , one can not judge another culture based on one's own cultural beliefs and / or practices .

Why not? What fun with this board be without being able judge people

Seriously though, I could care less what culture he was in/from, he is still a d-bag for snagging salmon. Why would he use flies if he wasn't trying to catch them fair? If he would have rolled out with an ugly stick, 30# braid, and a weighted treble at least I would have known what to expect and could have changed it right there.
