And Again....

I'm all tagged out for the season. Shot my third bird this morning. he came in with another jake and a hen. First time that i had ever hunted by myself, im only 16 years old. called in the hen and next thing i know i see 2 gobblers behind her. shot him at 12 yds. I couldnt get a clear shot because they were moving fast into my decoys, so i just let them keep coming. Finally they were right on top of me and i had a good shot. He dropped like a rock. I walked over and the crap hit the fan, he was going crazy. One of the funnest hunts, even though he didnt gobble. the hen was standing 5 yds from me when i shot. 6 inch beard, 3/4 inch spurs.

nice bird...looks like he has a full fan not the standard longer middle tail feathers that jakes have. I'm thinking that might be a 2 year old. Nonetheless congrats on a great season.

I think we will see a lot of lower than average weights this year due to the brutal winter. the bird I shot was barely 18lbs. and was a mature bird having a double beard one 11" and the other 7" with spurs just over an 1".

Weights here have definitely been lower than average.
