i shot a bird in PA on the jr hunt and a bird in NY on opening day. you get 2 tags in NY. the first bird i shot was in the national forest near our hunting camp. Deer hunting sucks anymore down there. Turkey hunting is phenomonal!

Two longbeards roosted about 150 yards from my setup. Flew down and gobbled sporadically, somewhat interested. This one finally snuck in, got a look at pretty boy and proceded to try and eat him prior to his hevi-shot injection at about 7 am saturday.

    Got one this morning.

Never heard one gobble on the limb. Being that the ground was wet and quiet, worked my way up and out a ridge. 2 times I hear a faint gobble at 0700 but cannot tell where it is coming from. I continue to slowly walk and hear it again, it's out in front of me about 250 yds. I go another 50 yds and hear it again but now it's much closer, we're moving toward each other. I set up a hen decoy, find a good tree, and sit down.
I make one short series of yelps and the woods explodes 100 yds away, 2 birds that both double gobbled. I wait for a minute or two and turn my head away from the birds and let out a couple cutts and short yelps. That gets another series of doubles. I go silent. They gobble 2 more times on their own and much closer, then they appear, heads white as light bulbs. They see the decoy and both go into strut side by side walking to the decoy.
I picked the larger of the two (front bird now) and nail him at 30 yds.
I stand up and bird number two is still standing there. He starts spurring the flopping bird. I start cutting and yelping loudly with him responding with gobble after gobble. I finally take 5 steps closer and he runs off. I get to the down bird, take my vest off, take a cell phone pic, send it to my Dad, the bird that ran away starts gobbling again 100 yds away. I left him still gobbling away.......

From first gobble to shot was 15 minutes.

10 1/4 beard, 1" spurs, didn't weigh yet but probably around 20 lbs.

i killed a dandy older bird this morning. 10" beard 1 1/2 spurs and 21# i suckered him in with a strutten jake decoy. he never gobbled 1 time. been seeing him in field every morning so set up there and just hung out. heard 1 gobble at day light with the thunder then heard the hens and knew he was with them. a put the decoy where he could see from far away when he entered the field. at 7:00 way out the field pops up the hens and here he comes. strait bee line clear across the field and POW. shot him on top of the decoy at 7yards from me
