troutwizard, if your going up this thursday to the Oak let me know about the  water conditions? my buddy and I are suppose to head up there the 18th and 19th water is my major concern. As far as tackle, if your gonna fly fish a 7 or 8 wt rod should do nicely, tippet anywhere from 4lb test up..low water equals lighter tippet and smaller hooks.. all depends on conditions.. Good Luck

Started off at the Oak this Am and ended up at 18mile.  Neither one was good for us.  Low water and not many fish for the ammount of fisherman fishing.
Hope to get back up in a week or so.  Good luck if you get out.

Anybody still boat fishing in tight at the Oak or Olcott????  There have to still be quite a few matures in the lake still.

Plenty of fish are from mouth all the way to the dams. We hit some smaller streams around that had purdy good flow.
Would think lots of brownies & steelhead should be in em in the next week or two eatin eggs. Took a few photos of the sportsmen fishin at the Oak Dam

Could not believe how few people fish them there cricks over there. My son Timmy, Greg & I fished a creek loaded with many many fish in the 20 - 27lb. range with some browns & a few steel in em without seein another soul. Even at the mouth of the Oak on Sun. there was one bluehair & a father of 2 little boys showed up & that was it. One of the little kids caught a pike right away, made my day.  Take a BIGG knife with you !!! The leaves will be a pain the next two weeks though. The fish near the mouth are a battle.

Timmy has plenty of fish remains for trappin season that starts this Sun. in Pa.

I got the biggest fish out of the 11 of us this trip.

It has nothin to do about the level of water but the temp. at the Oak if you ask me. The smaller streams temp. was gettin colder by the day Sun.- Tues. When washin my hands in a stream at 11:00 Tues. I said wow is that water gettin cold.

The water is commin from the Erie Canal so water levels/flow is not a problem up there like alot of streams.

Good Luck & have a Blast

Heading up to the Oak November 3-hoping this rain will bring the flow up a bit and cool the water. I aint been up there in a few years-so whats the hot bait these days? Everyone still throw egg sacs and yarn flies? I use different stuff than a lot of other fisherman-always have some sacs with though as they always seem to be a good standby. I use some plastics although cant use them on a jig head because of regulations. Also use different floating cranks in the deeper holes-banana style baits for kings and tighter wobbling baits for steel. So anyone wanna share whats working these days. Always new things and techniques to try.

I fished Saturday AM with the spinning rod and nada....Still the loyal "fishermen" at the dam fishing for rotten salmon...Did see a decent number of browns downriver but not a whole lot going on....left for Burt Dam and it was on fire. 13 fish hooked in 3-4 hours on the flyrod...mostly browns with 1 coho, 1 steelie and 3 kings mixed in...not bad for still learning the flyrod
