shot lines

how do you guys keep your micro-shots from moving up and down on your shot lines? it seems like no matter how hard i put them on they still come loose. also when the creeks are high and fast do you guys put on a longer shot line or same length just alot heavier/bigger shot. I was making my shot lines alot longer and alittle heavier, i was killing fish but it was nearly impossible to land a fish with a 8 foot shot line plus 4 foot leader.

your shot line should be between 2-4' with an 18-24" leader.8' is way too long unless your fishing 10'deep water.Shoot me a pm when you are free,we can go somewhere work out the bugs.flyandfloatfishing.com,floatfishingconnection, has some good videos on making shotlines.Use blackbird shot, have no problums with it sliding.i do not pinch it too tight,i slide it around depending on the water.

when things are high... i usually stack shot, rather than taper...

if you're still looking for the balance in a tapered shotting pattern, try the inverse radical... heavier shot at bottom, taper up instead of down.

mx is persistent.. listen to the dude man

"Sure, we can assiduously three-quarter our wets downstream, mend and wait out each fly swing, over and over again, which to my way of thinking, anyway, relegates the angler to the role, not of nemesis as it should be, but of butler."
