Shenango River stocking?

Am I the only one having a tough time catching trout since the stocking this week?

I've caught everything else except trout this week, counting three, yes three catfish today on sucker spawn...

I should've stayed at Neshannock where I did really well in low, gin clear conditions...

For the record, I haven't seen any other trout caught this week. The one fishery that has plenty of flow and color and the fishing, for lack of better words, sucks. I'm starting to wonder if the muskies ate them all already or they just didn't stock at all.

Was at the bridge and saw an old codger catching them on spinners, I only got one on a caddis but also got a smally and a sucker. Go figure. Streamers are the ticket, which I did,nt try that day.

I don't know the exact exit number but from 79 you want to get onto 80W towards Sharon (you'll be on it for about 15 minutes or so) and then take the Hermitage/Sharon exit which will put you on route 18N.

Stay on 18N until you reach an intersection with a Sunoco on the right. It's the intersection just past the second Sheetz. You will pass through downtown Hermitage, including the mall, the high school and Wal-Mart. You'll pass through I think seven intersections before you get to the one you want.

Anyway, at this intersection take a left and stay on the road until you reach the first intersection in Sharpsville. Take a right here and follow this road around a couple bends. Go through the first two stop signs and hang a right once you reach High Street Bar and Grille. This is the road you want and the dam parking will be veered off to your right once you pass over the Danny's bridge. There's an Army Corp of Engineer sign that you can't miss.

    Hope that helped.

I fished my usual holes Friday and caught a fairly big channel cat on caddis pupa and a smallie later in the evening on a bugger swung through cover. I got word today that the action is, in fact, at Danny's. Coincidentely this is where I rarely fish, go figure. It won't be long before the fish move upstream, though.

    No problem.

I stopped down for a couple hours today and fished at Danny's. I've got to be honest, I'm really unfamiliar with the key holes in this section but I did manage one fishing a run that looked promising, took olive caddis pupa.

I've noticed the fish commission at the river a couple times in the last four or five trips. They were checking licenses today and apparently busted a couple teenagers shortly before asking for my license and shooting the bull.

I usually do well at the bridge. Wade to the shute between the Island and just down stream were the river turns to the left. Also up from the island is another nice hole.

That sounds like where I was fishing.

Anyway, I stopped down for an hour and a half this evening, fishing my usual stretch upstream. I managed one and a bonus, fat bellied smallie. I love catching smallmouth when they have a little size to them, arguably one of the best fighting freshwater fish pound for pound, especially on the fly.

Fished that stretch for about an hour on Tues. with spinners, untill my daughter decided to see if her waders were waterproof from the inside. She crossed over to island and filled one and filled the other on the way back ! Iwent out to help herand before I got there she did 3 Ooops in a row and sved herself each time, although the last bobble she looked me in the face with that "i'm goin' in" look. Good save ,but it doesn't get any closer than that ! Got 1 smallie and 1 bow at the dam in about 15 min. On the way out at the bridge as I drove by, a guy had a couple on the ground behind his car. I thought I was at Erie for a sec. ! The one, I think was a trout was well over 20". Sorry to the gent I almost ran of the road when I was lookin back at the fish ! Mika, was goin to call you, but didn't even leave home till around 4,Didn't know if we were going to fish, more of a nice ride on a nice day without pullin the boat.

Eat what you catch, troll for cows.

The wate is still pretty warm and ron, park on the side of the river before you cross the bridge in front of dannys. Then walk down the paved trail a little ways until you see a break in the bushes and go in there. You will step in very shallow water. Walk out in front of the island and fish the very riffled part. It looks shallow, LOOKS CAN BE DECIEVING it is very deep. Also upstream to the other island on the far side is a DEEP!!!!! hole that holds the big ones. hopes this helps.

Thanks, flirod4evr. That's actually the exact path and hole I fished, too.

The river is down to one gate (sleuce gate four) open at 1.5 feet...atleast it was yesterday. I remember it being more or less blown out this time last year.

I started out upstream yesterday with two carp to show for it so I ended up driving down to Danny's and caught a couple, pink blood dot up top with caddis larvae green, olive, pearl behind...doesn't seem to matter. A nice day to be on the water either way.

Off topic...is anyone fishing Cool Spring Creek DHALO and if so how low and/or fishable is it?
