looking for trolling motor input at wilmore dam

Hey guys. I was wondering what size trolling motor do you use for all day fishing at wilmore dam. I finally got my boat. not the one i described in an earlier post. This one is much nicer. Its a grumman 12 semi-v aluminum. I got the boat, a trailer, hummingbird fishfinder, and a 9.5 marriner outboard(mint shape) and alot of other extras for $1000.00 The boat and all my gear plus 2 people weigh less than 500lbs

Wilmore is pretty darn small, unless it's really windy, a 40# trolling motor should push you boat around all day - if you outboard is a tiller control, you can even take it off to reduce the weight.

If you have to use an electric motor, my advice is to get the biggest 12 volt motor you can afford and take an extra battery with you. You won't be sorry. The wind picks up in these mountians real quick and you'll need all the power you can muster to get where you need to.

Hey guys. Well i got a heck of a deal at dunhams. I got a minn kota endura 55lb thrust for a little over $200. I went and got a deca dp27 with 175 reserve capacity at 23amps. After doing a little searching i found out that the endura 55 pulls about 50amps on the highest setting (5).  Am i correct to assume that trolling on the highest speed with the endura 55 that my reserve capacity would actually be around 80 with this battery? Does anyone know what the amp draw is on speed 1,2,3 and 4 with the endura 55?

Holy crap, this sounds like a 9th grade math problem. If train A leaves city Y at 10 0'clock, and train z leaves city d at 9 o'clock.................

FYI, you will have to remove the gas motor and your gas tank from your boat if you want to fish Wilmore.

Get yourself an extra battery exactly the same as you just purchased and get yourself two 3' sections of 4 gauge wire, attach appropriately sized connectors on the end, and wire the two batteries up in parallel (positive to positive, negative to negative).  You just doubled your capacity.  As mentioned, Wilmore is long and skinny and if the wind gets howling, you'll get pushed around pretty good and if it is a head wind, it will set you back up to a 1/2 mph or more depending on your wind profile.

I have a heavy 14' Starcraft I take out on Wilmore and I usually have 3 or 4 batteries with me.

With a 55 lb motor though, I don't imagine you'd get more than a couple hours on it at full throttle with a standard 12v deep cycle.

I have a 55 lb thrust Minn Kota.  If I run it for an hour on full throttle it is pretty well drained.   I always carry an extra battery.

The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.
