tipup Ice fishing line ?

I guess from my own experience , i was going to switch the original black dacron tipup lines from my some two decade old tipups.. i have 12 or 15lb. on a couple and what looks to be 25 to 30lb on a few others.. most the waters I icefish are less than 50ft. with small to avg.size 3-6lbs are big.. so i'm not really in pursuite of huge pike/tiger musky..just wondering if the heavier tipups lines are better or if someone has tried that plastic coated tipup line instead of the cheaper dacron. I was thinking of getting a 200 yd bulk spool for three spools either 25 or 30lb test.. i think the thicker dia. handle /perform better but wondering if i'm compremising anything going with the heavier gauge dacrons?

i always use 20lb dacron fly line backing.  its the same as tipup line but almost 1/2 price :)   you dont need anything super heavy since many of the fish are sluggish this time of year.  i use 4lb leaders on all my tipups for pickerel and lake trout and i landed a 6 pounder the other day with no issues.

if at first you dont succeed... blow it up.

you want organic? well then shut the &^$() up and eat a *$&#*( squirrel.

I went with 3 spools of 25lb. 100yds woodstock tipup waterproofed dacron.. i would of went 30lbs but the merchant was out of stock. least expensive i found on the net,, also took adavantage of free shipping with 50.00 purchase order..so i restocked on alot of lures I lost in 09.. I'm ready for late season ice or open water! How is it looking up there? Hoping the ice in march is safe.At least I'll be ready if it is

    backin:

Plenty of ice up here, but covered with all kinds of slush on top at Saratoga Lake, Lake Lonely and some of the others.  Ice is still 10-12" thick under the slush, but it will not be long before I am out on the Spring ice off Fitch Road working on my tan fishing for crappies.

Ed, Thanks for the ice update, I will certainly let you and whoever else know days in advance if I come up that way.. Also, Me too with those crappie this spring..i like trout but want to try more for them prespawns this early opener. I've two perfect ultra light setups specifically for crappie fishing. I learned of some new spots last year and looking forward to trying them from shore and from boat.

I used my measuring tape and had 17 inches of nlack ice end of day it was still hard enough to walk back across the lk without that slush slosh bs.. alneit i managed to make a small salad bowl of perch fillets for a fry.
