stocked fish

they just stocked shenango below the dam today. Got down there and saw a water snake attached to a trouts tail so I scared it away and put it back in the water. didnt catch anything on sucker spawn and caddis larvae. I was wondering what everybody uses for freshly stocked fish.

I thought the stocking was tomorrow...

Anyway, white sucker spawn is usually my most productive on freshly stocked fish. I'm kind of surprised you didn't catch atleast one on it...

Any generic nymph or egg pattern will work on the fresh stocked fish. If that fails then wooly buggers should generate some action.

Just curious but what part of the river did you fish? I'll probably head over tomorrow after work for an hour or two. It sure is nice to fish somewhere with some flow!

I fished directly below the dam. If you walk down the road from the top parking lot. It definitely has some flow! The water may have been a little to warm or they could have been adjusting to the new environment. But I could sit here and make excuses, might try by dannys tommorow heard they were catching them there. thanks

I fish the river fairly often and there are three spots I mainly fish between the dam and the riffles downstream. In all the years I've fished the river, I've yet to have great success at Danny's. I do well for smallmouth down there in the summer, but not trout. You'll usually find me between the dam downstream just before the slow, deeper water beyond the riffles.

Anyway, come to think of it, I remember last year I left work early the day they stocked in the fall and didn't catch a fish. I haven't called in a few days, but I'm assuming they still have three gates open to a foot each?

Fished for a couple hours today and caught a carp on sucker spawn, that's it.

The weekend should be good. It always seems the fish have lockjaw when initially stocked.

Wooly Buggers usually take freshly stocked fish.  I've had pretty good luck in black, olive and white.

I gave olive and brown a solid shot but to no avail.
