spooling line

I ran into a deal of the year and just couldn't resist. Now my question is when I spool my reel with line is it better to under fill or should I have it filled to the top? I'm a newbie and never even tried casting before. I was thinking that underspooling may make learning a little easier but then got to thinking that maybe it wouldn't come off the spool as easy. Help me out you pro's.

don't let things like that influence your casting.  Learn spin casting techniques (wallis/bc...etc) from the get go.  Guys talk about casting different ways in different situations, but this is crap.  I modified the wallis cast in my own way, and used it exclusively, everywhere.

"Sure, we can assiduously three-quarter our wets downstream, mend and wait out each fly swing, over and over again, which to my way of thinking, anyway, relegates the angler to the role, not of nemesis as it should be, but of butler."

Go with whats recommended for the reel. I've got 100yds. 20lbs. fly line backing and 330yds. of 10lbs. siglon f.

Don't fill it to the top, leave 1/4 inch or so. Most CP reels hold a lot of line, when you fill it right to the top you will experience some birdsnests, especially when you're still getting the hang of things.

what he said alnong with a full spool will over run easier and line getting around the back is a bigger problem. 1/4" from the top is a good place to be. also recommend spin casting of some type like the other guy said, wallis or bc or anything where the lines coming directly off the spool and not the side.

    have a nice day.

Happy to hear the gear problem is taken care of. If I was to put the 2 hander down for the "stupid stick," somebody called it that once and I thought it was funny. I will for sure look your direction for some wisdom. I'll bring the brats you bring the Blue Light and a free sample of a tree. Do you have any plans to come to OH? If so we will for sure get together. If not I'll let you know when I'll be getting to the Catt next fall. I remember a day promised in the gorge.

Sure if you got 5 minutes I'll show you what I know. I wont say a word to anyone. You dont have to show me how to cast a pin. I honestly can say I have zero intrest. Get a hold of me. I'm not working now, so I'm free pretty much all the time. Rumor on the street is your river has more open water than mine.

I just got back from my first ever pinnin trip with my new set up. Even though I did enjoy the different type of fishing I beleive I'll try to sell the rig. I did fish all day with little to no problems casting what so ever, it just wasn't for me. Thanks for all you guys help and suggestions. Anyone want to buy a new rod/reel
