Bass Flies

Taking a break from floss and tinsel for a bit, I tied up these two monters. It was nice using 3/0 and a size 1 hook for a change! Crayfish fly on the way soon too...

D-Nymph, I'm not really up on bass flies...what is that one? Looks like a woolly bugger and a foam beetle were gettin it on in the fly box.

Gurgler.  I use yellow and white.

1/0 or 2/0 stainless steel hook.
    buck tail - tail
estaz or golden stone nymph dubbing - body
    rubber legs
    schlappen hackle
    foam back.

add a bunch of thread wraps under the foam, at the eye, to prop the foam up so it chugs, not pops, on the surface.

Large and small mouth bass kill it.

Even bluegills with a death wish.

Here's the crawfish I've been working on... almost have it the way I want it. Trying to figure out the best way to tie on the inside of the shank so it rides like a clouser.. Almost have the steps down.

Hey all, dredged this thread up to post an update...

Finally got a chance to use a fly from this thread yesterday evening, when I stopped by a favorite pond. Actually had one of my 7wts with me, so I could throw these big chunks.

I'd been fishing a while with smaller flies with no success so I decided to switch it up and tie on the pink/white/chartreuse bunny-worm-thing in the OP. First cast, BAM. Fish on. It hit the water and I stripped it a few times to get it soaked, and immediately, a bass whacked it.

Tied a few more of those now, in black/chart, black/purple, and white/chart. Also gonna tie up some in white/purple, chart/purple, pink/black, etc...just to see what works, and to have an effective fly in colors to suit any condition.

     white/purple

one of my fav bass color combo's.  Those flies are no doubt awesome looking for bass.

Cold- Any chance you could post the instructions for the Crawfish pattern you showed a little bit ago? That looks like a killer pattern.

Used to use one like that from a pattern in PA Angler. Good fly!

Any idea where I could by some good quality bass flies. I just started flying for steelies this past fall and wanted to get in the bay and practice on the bass this spring. I looked online but every where is either sold out or want $3.50+ for a fly.

I am very new at fly fishing. Could you help me on which actual flies to buy for bass? I been reading and I hear poppers and crawdads are a goto fly. Any suggestions? Thank you

Sorry. forgot to ask wait size flies are good for bass. I am use to throwing small presentations for steelhead so I am unsure. I actually just created a thread over in the fisherie.com forumn. Here is the link...
