How I'm Spending My Vacation

I'm off this week and I've decided to stay close to home and fish hard.
This morning I went to a favorite spot I fish once or twice a year.
Today was special because I finally broke out a rod I got for X-MAS (Thanks Santa), and a reel my parents got me complete with extra spool.
The Rod is a Sage XP 4 piece 6 wt., and the Reel an Orvis Battenkill Mid Arbor.
I had planned to save it for Steelhead fishing, but it needed to be done...
No fish landed today. I must admit to mastering the long release today.
The new combo is sweeter than Honey and I can't wait till "Early Dawn" to quote Stonewall Jackson.
Anyhow I took a couple pics. I plan on adding to this all week. Tune in and see if I can actually catch a fish.
P.S.- The wife wants to fish a day too. I hope to do well that day...

More fishing today. Managed to catch some. How many I don't know, but I'll share a couple of the better ones, and one of the wife and her catch.
    Got some underwater pics too.
Check out the landmark- whats left of an old Iron Furnace. Fun Times!

Today I took the wife to a place I hadn't been to in a few years. We had to blaze a trail through swamp, cat & 9 tails, meadow grass, etc, but it was worth it. Outside temp. was 90 degrees. we got on the water here and there to cool off- 58 degrees. Plenty of Rainbows and Browns but nothing landed. The fishing was tough, but we saw a few monsters up close. I pulled a fly out of an honest 2 footer's mouth. Wonderful fish. My wife- the beginner that she is stated just seeing those fish and having a chance to catch them was better than catching 20 stockies somewhere else. That's my girl!
Took a pic while bush wacking, one of the little gem of a stream, an old spring house we saw and a cool Bannana Spider. Also took some more under water pics.. Am happy to share some of my day with you all.
    Blazing a trail

    Finally- WATER!

    Surface/Sub Surface Pic

The Spring House. Lens was foggy. Camera was in the cold water just before

A Spring we saw coming out of the ground. Notice the pond at the head...

And lastly the Big Spider. Check this guy out!

Yeah- it's a nice breather. No fishing today. We fed the ducks and went to the fly shop for a visit.
Raining here as I speak. Rain and a cold front- Will be fishing in the AM.
I did take a pic of water coming out of an underground cavern....Pretty Cool Stuff.

I think this is a great way to not only share your vacation but a great way to share fishing trips with each other. I have been enjoying your photos all week, and its making it very hard to be at work. Enjoy the rest of your vacation and thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words Sculpin 14.
I just came in from gathering up a few Milk Weed Pods. I plan on useing the silk for flies in place of Marrabou for streamers. I've read they were used in days gone by for flies and the material is quite durable.
My dad (who will be 70 soon) told me recently during WW2 they would gather the pods up and get $2 a bag for them. The silk was used to make parachutes for our troopers. Cool story- thought I'd share that.
Maybe I'll do a pictorial of a fly when I use them if there are no objections.
Above all I want us all to share good stories here.

Today was kinda windy. I played with my tow head all morning and all the kids after school. If the wind is gone come daybreak I'll be off to catch a fish.
    Here's the tow head Samuel...

I am going away to NY, Michigan, and Florida, for a few days each this month. May get to fish some new places, i've never fished before. Hopefully I am able to get some good pics! I'll make sure to post 'em.

That sounds good. BTW is the Meadows icecream place still open? I grew up going there. I miss it.

Thanks! The coaches took us there after our baseball games when I was growing up.
If I could go back in time and re-live a day it would be one of my youth in Duncansville. Home....
