Ice and the freighter

The ice will be fine at the head of the bay, 2nd and 3rd parking lot , mis and horseshoe pond. Every year the ice cutter comes in and messes with ice for a couple of weeks and things, as long as it stays cold, will be back to normal. We just do not need more snow, just cold air!!!! Fishing should be good this week and weekend. Getting reports perch are slowly picking up more deep water, give it time it is early.
Good fishin and "Hookem' and Cookem' "!!!

about 6 or 7 inches of good black ice, with about 5 inches of slush/snow combined. Ice is sagging a little from the weight, so expect a little water on your boots. There were people almost in the middle of the bay from the public dock, and they said it was about the same. probably head back out today after work again to try it.

RE: Ice and the freighter AND UPDATE OF FISHING 2010/01/14 11:52:48 (permalink)
ICE IS 7 - 7 1/2 OFF CHESTNUT, GUYS WERE OUT PRETTY FAR, I WALKED OUT TO INLINE WITH END OF CONVENTION CENTER STRAIT OFF THE RAMP OF CHESTNUT. TALKED TO COUPLE OF GUYS, THINGS WERE SLOW, THEY SAID SMALL THROW BACK PERCH. THEY ALSO SAID THEY CALLED PRESQUE ISLE ANGLER ( THE OLD SMITY'S ON STATE ) SAID THE FREIGHTER CAME IN LAST NIGHT, THEN A GROUP OF GUYS SAID IT IS COMING IN TODAY AT NOON. EITHER WAY I DON'T THINK IT IS GOING TO AFFECT THE ICE THERE, IT IS GOOD HARD BLACK ICE. HOOKEM' AND COOKEM'

The Presque Isle came in today around 2:30. I watched her from North Pier. There was no ice in the channel, but the CG did send out the breaker to pilot her in the bay.

Caption: Onlookers watch as the freighter M/V Presque Isle enters the channel into Presque Isle Bay in Erie on Jan. 14. The 1,000-foot-long freighter docked at Erie Sand & Gravel at about 4pm following a trip from Conneaut, Ohio. The freighter, which has a home port in Duluth, Minn., was empty and will be in Erie for the winter for repairs. The Presque Isle, part of which was built in Erie, sailed through ice-free water from Lake Erie into Presque Isle bay after a tug boat broke up the channel ice on Jan. 13. Another Great Lakes freighter, the Edgar B. Speer, is due in Erie on Nov. 16, according officials at Erie Sand & Gravel. CHRISTOPHER MILLETTE/
