Clouser pattern

This is my first crack at one of these fancy tutorials so go easy on me

Materials



Start your thread and begin tying the eyes on. Use a figure 8 pattern to secure them to the hook. Leave yourself some room at the front of the hook.



You'll get the idea of where you want them after tying a few and seeing how them swim.



Pick your first color of bucktail and tie in in front of the eyes. Tie loosely at first so it doesn't spread out.







Pull hair up and over eyes. Tying in loosely again behind eye. Spiral wrap to the hook shank and back.







Rotate vise 180 degrees or take fly out and turn upside down if your vise doesn't rotate.

Tie in your flash material, I use 8-12 strands just longer than the bucktail material.



Tie in your second color of bucktail.





Whip finish and apply head cement liberally.

    nice a clouser is like a wooley bugger ya can't leave home with out it
    as for the hook i use kink shank makes it a lil easier and read where it balances better
    with the dumb bell eyes

    fishen... got a link to those hooks?

    My understanding is you don't want them to completely balance out. You want a little weight towards the front of the hook so it gives it a "darting" motiion in the water like a wounded baitfish or crawfish swimming.

    Nice tutorial.  Have always had success with a Clouser, for pretty much anything lol.

    Wouldn't the eyes be on the wrong side of the hook? Would they still ride with the hook shank pointing up?

    I use those popper hooks, but I still tie the eyes on the top of the shank. Tie them infront of the kink for more jigging action, behind if you want a more "sliding" action. Depending on the size of the eyes or the material between them the hook point will ride up or down if you tie them in the kink on the bottom of the shank.

    Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

    Nice tutorial, and good looking minnow.  By far my favorite pattern (maybe tied with the Clouser/Deciever hybrid - half & half). 
     
    I'd suggest using a dab of krazy glue after just about every step. 
     
    Also can substitute the lead eyes with ball chain links, if you want to avoid lead or want something to work a little higher in the water column (adds a nice whistling sound when casting too).  Craft hair instead of bucktail works pretty well too.
