"There were very few crossbows out there until they became legal for hunting. Many folks in this state and others warned this would happen but were ignored by the manufactures and supporters."

So, then banning them would eliminate, or greatly reduce their use by criminals?

Do you see where I'm going? And the contradiction between your arguement against crossbows, and previous arguement for other classes of weapons? Remember, how "the criminals" will still have, and use them?

You ahould just quit while your ahead S-10....Spoon gotcha beat.

Maybe you can start a crossbow buy-back program :)

If it has fins and gills, I'm there.

I don't own an assalt weapon but I'm smart enough to no not to start complaining about them. Hunters need to stick together more now than ever!

Regardless of the original purpose behind their developement. The fact remains, that their ability to penetrate protective vests, creates a greater threat to police officers. But that is outside the current arguement.

Either those "outside the law" have easy access to "illegal" weapons, or they don't. Banning a weapon, either reduces it's use in crime, or it doesn't.

Not even going to read all of the responses to this garbage post S-10.  I guess that other weapons are never used by poachers.

I would expect that reaction from you dpms given your full speed ahead, negative comments and concerns be dammed in full implementation of crossbows. Folks are using them for poaching rather than rifles because there is less chance of being caught and I was merely pointing that out in this thread and giving examples. Sorry if I hurt your feelings and others but it's happening. No need to get personel. We can let this die or continue

Nothing personal S-10.  Would have said the same thing regardless of who posted it.  If you posted  poaching releases regularly where different weapons were used, your intentions would be genuine.  In this case your hatred for a particular weapon was the motivation for the post.

The data from full inclusion should determine if the issue lives or dies at this point.  The fight is over for the time being.  We can all revisit in March 2012.

Don't hate them, they just aren't comparable to a vertical bow and shouldn't be classified as one. As for folks using them because of an injury, go back over my old posts and you will see that I have never said those folks shouldn't be allowed to use them. Hell, my son uses one for that exact reason and I will also(and have stated that) when I can no longer use a vertical bow. This is my last post on this thread as The original reason for the thread was to show that contrary to some who originally claimed they would not be a poachers weapon they are in fact being used for that purpose. I see I stepped on a few toes.

I think everyones toes feel just fine.  Poachers will use any weapon that is available to them.  The crossbow is but one of many tools that are chosen.

You did step on some toes S-10.    The gated community of treasure lake was long the testing grounds of many many experiments in PA hunting, including the silent arrow rifle as a poachers tool.   Half the arguments all along from pro-crossbow folks were that you can't fit a crossbow outside a window in a vehicle.

Was this a poacher or someone who thinks a crossbow is a rifle ?

Whatever the case, and the fact that there is truth to poachers using whatever tool they chose, it sure "didn't take long.."

Maybe it was just a bad shot??  I guess you never have seen pics of 28 inch Eastons sticking out of deers heads, backs or necks either.  Never saw bullet wounds in places they shouldn't be?

Could have been a poacher, who knows.  Point is poachers and bad shooting exists among all of us.  No group or weapon is immune, crossbows included.

Trying to prove points using stuff like this is no different then the HSUS using pics of embedded chains on dogs necks to get donations IMO.  Criminals are criminals, hunters are hunters.  Time to stand united and quit the stereotyping and infighting. Referring to crossbows as crossbows instead of "silent arrow rifle" would be a good start.

Possibly a bad shot.   Very unlikely and you know that.   The bolt is straight on.   I have seen pics of deer with arrows in them.   However, it didn't take long for this to transpire.   That's all.   Nuff said.

As for names of equipment, "vertical" is often used by you.    It's a bow and arrow D.   As long as the misconception of what the crossbow is capable of exists, the names will exist.     Education is likely key in what the crossbow can and cannot do.   I would hope the crossbow federation is out educating the masses of 950,000 PA hunters that don't belong to internet forums.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Maybe the HTE instructors will spend some time with it too.   But as with anything else, comfort ranges are different for each person, but seem to be a bigger misconception with crossbows, for whatever reason.

s-10,

Hate to burst your bubble here, but yes, you can get a regular bow out the drivers window of a ford f150 and shoot it.  Never did it to kill a deer but a few years ago a group of us were practicing and calling our shots.  Similar to a game of horse, if you will,  My brother pulled his f150 over at 20 yards, stuck his bowtech out the window on the drivers side, drew, and pinwheeled the x on a 5 spot target.  I did the same, just shot about a half inch high.  So it can be done.  Does that mean all bows under 35in axletoaxle should be banned too??

so save your breath I could not hear, I think I made it very clear...
