Saratoga Lake/Lake Lonely

Yes the loonies were out on both lakes today.  I even ventured out on both with mixed feelings.  You could actually walk out and look through the clear ice and see the fish scurry around when your shadow fell over them.  Only nice thing was the ability to see where the weed edges were for setting tip-ups for pike.
By tomorrow I'm sure both lakes will be much safer.

Eagle:  With the size of your shadow there must have been fish scurrying all over the place!  Maybe if you used one of those noodle rods for jigging you could get beyond your shadow and catch some.    Good luck this morning--see you for lunch.

Been on Lonely the last 3 days. Today fished the same spot as yesterday and was shocked to find 2 more inches of ice made overnight making a total of measured black ice 7 inches. Lonely is making ice real fast but beware there are a ton of stress fractors with it growing so fast (most have refroze). Was popping pretty good by the time we left the ice today.

    Wisdom:

Saw two trucks there this morning when I went over to Saratoga Lake.  Same pressure cracks on Saratoga Lake and really slippery without good creepers.  Didn't have any luck just North of the bridge off the State Boat Launch today, but neither did any of the others I spoke with today.  Yesterday, they said they caught plenty of perch/crappies in the same spots so I don't know what happened today.  Wind didn't help any making it seem a lot colder.
Just jigged with my favorite perch type #7 Rapala, which usually results in plenty of perch/crappies but not today and not even one hit.
May give Lake Lonely a try tomorrow if the wind dies down.  If so I will definitely use my tip-ups with the large shiners for pike.
