I guess that was it... 12/5/09

I had to travel out of town for work this week. Left on Sunday and got back Thursday night at about 11PM. I was driving down the Northway on the way home from the airport and noticed in the reflection of the moon tht Rensselaer Lake (6 mile waterworks) was fully iced over.... What a difference a week makes!

I hit a local puddle last Saturday at daybreak before the snow fell - I was hoping for a few trout, but they were nowhere to be found. I switched through flies and got a couple bass, and then the pikerel found me. They were very agressive, savage hits and stalking the bait at the surface with their backs breaking the water, like a mini version of JAWS. Nothing over 30" but a few decent fish out of the dozen I landed.

Sad for me see the boating season end, but this trip was a nice change of pace after a slow fall for me. Here's a few bad photos I took along the way.

I went through about 10 feet of 25lb mono for a tippet, thought this photo was cool - wear on the line after landing 1 20" fish.

not a bad way to end the season, some nice multi-species fly rod action. Time to break out the auger!
