I think the tricos are winding down.  I went out last week in the morning and seen a few, but no where near what there was a month ago.  I checked Spring out last night at milesburg and the water is a chalky grey color. It looks terrible.  I would have thought the run off from the dam removal would have been done by now but I guess not.  I would imagine these conditions must be hard on the fish.  I then moved up and fished a couple bridges below Talleyrand and they had Spring creek diverted over into gambles mill run.  The water was roaring behind gambles mills, and spring creek was incredibly low until the point where gambles mill dumped in.  I really hope that all of this work that is being done doesn't kill a bunch of fish.

The dam is gone. They are smoothing out the banks now, as fishing pit said, water clarity below is horrible, unfishable. The upper part by your camp is choked full of grass, nymphing is virtually impossible. Dan and I fished it the other day. He did pretty well on a beetle, there are some of those small bwo(24) coming off and the fish are key'd in on them. I most likely wont fish it again till we get high water and blow some of that grass out. Its really terrible.

Thank god archery season is two weeks away.

Dave, drop me an email, need to tell you something.

alaska was great & the fishing was good but the silver salmon were not
there in most streams this year, we did catch some silvers but the salt run
stealhead fresh from the salt was great, had some great days fishing for
them & the rainbow fishing was super once I found the secret, alaska
has been in a drought all summer & the rivers were wery low, the russian
river is the lowest it has been since 1987, but you could still catch dollies
& rainbows & also caught artic char, when I find out how to do it I will post some great pictures.

    Dave,
Where did you fish in Alaska.  I'm trying to plan a trip for my grandfather and I'm having a hard time finding anything reasonable priced.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

fishinpitt I did the trip on my own, we first rented a cabin on the keni &
it was okay but the last 10 days rented a motor home & that was great
campground on every stream & did not have to travel every day. With the
cabin we spent at least 3 hours a day driving & the car rental was close in price to the motor home. If you are close to state college we could fish spring creek some sunday & go to camp (  that I have on spring creek)
& I can show you the info that I have on streams & flies & pictures
& the books that are a great help, let me know       Dave

Sounds great Dave.  Let me know when you are free to fish Spring Creek and I'll check my schedule.  I live about 10 minutes from Spring Creek so it wouldn't be a problem.  I also know where your camp is, Terry and I stopped once.

    Hey Pat:

I moved to Harrisburg, state college is only 1.5 hours away. Went to a TU conference this weekend and fished spring creek.  Did well, seemed to be a decent number of fish regardless of the low conditions. Hope to see you on the streams

    Chris,
Hey hows it going?  Sorry I just saw your post now.  I currently live in Zion which is a couple minutes from Bellefonte.  What's your email address?  Email me your cell number, I lost all of my numbers a year  or two back by dropping my phone in the stream.

We will have to make some trips up to erie this year.  I was up last weekend and we did pretty well.  Ben Lorson from UPJ also lives up here.  He is going to grad school at PSU.

We will have to hit spring and the little J up too.

    Dave,
Thanks for all of the info.  I really appreciate, I'm probably going to go the route you did.  I plan to spend most of this winter researching the trip.

So whats the remark in your notes about PA fisherman not being able to handle alaskan rivers??? HAHA.  How did you end up doing on Spring this weekend.

    Thanks,
    Pat
