YOUR TOP FIVE LOCAL ICE DESTINATIONS

As we sit on our collective arse waiting for the ice to form, maybe we could come up with your TOP-5 places you want to visit this season.  They could be your old favorites or someplace you want to try.  Maybe we'll get some ideas for The Icejam Tour.  No spot giveaways, just general info.

1. LAKE GEORGE   Only tried it once for a couple hours. At least 3 or 4x this year, and I want to jig up some lakers.
2. SACANDAGA RES.   Never fished there before somehow.
3. BALLSTON LAKE   I am curious how big the pike get in here, the bass are very healthy indeed.
4. LAKE LONELY       Old reliable.
5. CAROGA LAKE    First ice splake is awesome a friend tells me.

    1. Lake George; Perch, Lake Trout, Pike, Salmon, other panfish, this lake has it all, and in spades.

    2. Saratoga Lake; Panfish, pike, pickerel and walleyes

    3. Canadarago Lake; Jumbo Perch

    4. Otsego Lake; Lake Trout

    5. Sacandaga Reservoir; Best large pike ice fishery in New York

Well Lake Lonely is the old stand by for me seeing it is two minutes from me, but there are some lake I wouldn't mind taking a shot at this year.
1.Oneida Lake - New York's premier walleye fishery.
    2.Otisco Lake - Tiger Musky
3.Tupper Lake - Northern Pike and Walleye
4.Great Sacandaga Lake - Northern Pike
    5.Lake George - Lake Trout

yank, west caroga is usually the first lake in the whole area to ice usually before christmas, maybe no this year, but the early season splake is easy pickens and its a tiny lake with easy shore access.

    My five
    otsego
    canadarago
    caroga-for early season
    lunkerville
    beardslee res.

Hopefully lake george will be added this year.

    1. looney bin
    2. Pee Pee
    3. ADK
    4. Schroon
    5. Paradise

The top 3 will be first freeze in NY and great waters. I see most picked late freeze waters,lg otsego. Hope for the best.
This year I'm going for Big Pike or broke.. The last 2 are also trout waters.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!  Well brother, you can come on over anytime you want!!!  But deep down we all know the lake isn't' exactly a hardwater mecca.  And for good reason!

But I am already stockpiling firewood for a February party like last year.

Ya'll can count on the weekend following Valentines Day, if that helps!!!

As for my 'list'?  Hard to say, since I really haven't ice fished too many places around here.  But here is my top five anyway.

1:  Any small lake(s) on the Warren/Hamilton County border (pike!!!)
    2.  Any small lake in Scotia near a summer drive-in burger joint (pike!!!)
    3.  Pee Pee (A definate overnighter this year, and...  pike!!!)
    4.  Otisco/Owasco/Cayuga (I love Otisco for trout and pike!!!)
    5.  Loon (I foresee an early-season tradition there.  And...  PIKE!!!)

I think we are on the same page . put you on a metalhead & big browns so next will be that giant pike. Don't worry we will get em' I just didn't target pike as much last year. Was still on that trout mode but now my sights are set on Big Pike and I know 3 out of those 5 are keepers without pressure.

JK- I guess it's no secret then eh?  I can't remember if he said east or west caroga... Probably the one you mentioned.  I've know about Candarago and Otsego... but Vly Pond and Beardslee Reservoir? OK I don't know those at all!  Interesting.

RJ  I'm with you brother - BIG PIKE are a target this year. Ok and lakers.

I'd surely agree that THE KING should have a place on anyone's 'long' list.

Heck, I only caught one fish out of there last season (at least it was a PIKE!!!) but still love the place.

If you're gonna' get skunked, Lake George is one helluva' place to do it.  And the drive is so easy!!!

As for Collins?  I am actually saving up days off so I can work that mutha' over HARD on a weekday this year.  Of course, we need ice first!  I hope this winter isn't like 2007-2008 or else we won't be partying on Snyders!

That winter it NEVER froze solid enough to fish.  Yet last year everyone was driving all over it!

Perchy- will you please fish Glass with me sometime this winter if we get the weather for it?

It is less than ten minutes away from both of our houses- but that lakes gives me fits.

P.S.  I can't beleive Snyders made two lists!!!  It's all about the ATTITUDE of the group and the ALTITUDE of the campfire, apparently!  I do agree- that outdoor party in Feb was a "first" for me- but tons of fun!!!

Watching your son chase down that runaway shanty on hockey skates was hilarious...

Not an option since i started using a flasher !!!!

    .
    .

As for my list ... i don't really have one. As long as i get out a dozen times or so during the season i'll be happy. I'll just met up with whome ever, open to new places or any capital district body of water.

I have a few smaller "home" lakes near me that i work over good. Mostly just pan fish. I'll have some open invites if any of you guys have nothing else to do.

Snyders Lake - for JJ2 "on ice" i will NOT miss

Monster Pike is what I'm after this year - For my "Reel" list it's going to be up to what freezes first...

    In no order:

1 - Round Lake - Has some monster Pike & Tigers, but a tough lake to pattern.
2 - Sacandaga Res. - some awsome Pike were pulled outa there last year - but again a tough lake to pattern - nic name the "dessert wasteland".
3 - Ballston Lake - Always can pull up some Panfish while waiting for the Pike.
4&5 - Some new water up north - not sure yet ...
